or if you watch hollyoaks, newt and his annoying accomplace are stereotypical emos

hope this helps dog

I thought they were goths?!

I didn't have a clue either. I asked my little brother and sister they gave different answers and still disagree. Basically they are all people that want to be different and thinks dressing differently achieves that or something else equally stupid.

I personally have nothing against the way they dress/act - but it makes me laugh that they think they are being unique and themselves

As for whoever said the music was depressing etc - what about Fall Out Boy? I thought they were considered to be 'Emo' but there music is fairly upbeat and non-depressing.

I happen to listen to a lot of so called 'Emo' music but I don't have any psychological issues and therefore do not feel the need to wear make up/have long hair/walk around depressed.

Elsiha - the jumping at gigs thing. Why worry about anyone else? And without causing any offence, no one else will be looking at you anyway, for no other reason than they are probably looking at the stage. When I was at Leeds last year, the whole crowd was jumping up and down and having fun. It was awesome.

Also they glide around in this group very quiet, forlorn, seemed once to be taking drugs on a park bench but on closer inspection they had clubbed together to buy a cup of pick n mix from woollies and were quietly sharing them. One of my sons friends is an emo and hes quite a withdrawn character, very pale and interesting you know.

this is why ive got nothing against them. they can be in a big group around a bench in a park or something but unlike chavs they dont attack people, especially not unprovoked and despite their oddities theyre mostly nice and friendly people underneath.

thing is for most people its just a phase they go through. and it doesnt stick. my cousins just started with the whole emo thing at 14 years old i think. really weird actually. he's ALWAYS been an outgoing, loud and very very cheerfull. now he walks around in black with his head down looking all depressed and buries hes head in a psp. just odd :xxx:

all the emos i tend to come across are overnight sensations. one day their normal the next they are wearing girls jeans and black and red striped shirts. i don't think many are depressed at all, its mainly a fashion statement. and i dont see anything attractive about boys skinnier than me
the whole emo thing is a little to popular in my town

proper emo as i remember it was all about bands like boysetsfire, quicksand, fugazi etc. then a bit of hardcore thrown in for good measure like snapcase.

:) oh why do you people ask this lol it gets me so wound up :withstupid:

Get a cup of tea, because this is a VERY long post lol

PIES RANT

I first started getting into the music scene when I was about 12/13, well that’s when I REALLY started getting into it. When I was aged 8 I found a tape and the label read “OUEE!! I asked what it was and my mum said “oh I don’t know, you wont like it so when she turned her back, up to my room I scampered and put it in my tape player with my headphones on. Turned out “Ouee was actually a very famous band called “QUEEN (the writing had faded and smudged over the years), anyway that was it, I was hooked. From this I found a love for rock music. I’m talking 80s and 90s rock bands like Dire Straits, The Police, Queen, oh and Stiff little fingers (but they were punk).
Then in 2000 I was introduced to a new genre, punk/punk-rock/pop-punk. Bands like Blink182, Jimmy Eat World and GOB came to light. A few years on and the entire “so-cali punk scene went crazy with the American Pie films using a lot of so-cali punk music and opening up a new genre to most. From then on my eyes have been opened more and more.

Back in 2000 there was a VERY popular music venue in Worcester Called “The Crown, for those who know Worcester it is now the upstairs part of the trendy “Lloyds bar (big boo please).
This venue was HUGELY popular, and by that I mean you had to start queuing outside from 5pm. Doors would open at 7:30 pm and first band on at 8pm.
Not only was the venue awesome, and the crowd friendly and loud, but the bands that played there were big names too (if you are/were into the scene);

Nerf Herder (guys who did the original ‘Buffy’ theme)
Lightyear
Lost Phophetz (notice the z, yes that was there before they were ‘big’)
ThisGIRL
Jesse James
Capdown
Captain Everything
No Comply
Vanilla Pod
Five Knuckle
Greebo (one of the most amazing bands to ever grace the planet)
Gash
Backwash
The not Katies
Red lights flash
Zebrahead

To name but a few. And this was all run by the parents of a Worcester band who are now reasonably big in the “underground music industry called “Tribute To Nothing.

Now the only bands from that list I know that HAVENT split up are Zebrahead, Lost Prophets, Captain everything, Backwash, and Jesse James. Capdown and Lightyear did get back together to play reading a few years ago but since then, nothing. Sad.

Anyhoo, after a few years possibly 2002 and the lease runs out on the crown and witherspoons buy it (GAAAAAAAY) so “The Void as it was called, had to find a new home. It relocated to ‘The Apple Tree’, then ‘The Saracens Head’ and then finally at the ‘Community centre’ for a few months. Then the community centre needed the floor doing and after wrecking “The apple tree (putting the floor through!!) it finally found a new home at the Arts Workshop. Not a bad venue, but defiantly not the crown.
Anyway you might think Why the hell are you telling us this pie? well I shall explain.
Over the years Tribute To Nothing went from strength to strength, and Ben (the drummer) took over The Void from his parents. It then went from weekly shows to fortnightly and then monthly.
Then Ben gave it back to his dad, everyone in Worcester thought this might be a new beginning, after all he had started it from nothing at the crown.
But alas it was not to be, he had this crazy idea of “bring your own booze and then opened it up to “all ages, which as anyone can guess, spells trouble. I played gigs in 3 of the venues, unfortunately not the crown, but I played the arts workshop a few times, the last time being February 2007 and it was awful/
Kids were there to compare their hair and who had the tightest jeans. The music scene in Worcester was officially DEAD. Bands are still about in Worcester and going well.

This venue was no longer for people who loved watching bands express themselves, or for people who loved music as a whole. This was a fashion parade!

Ok I may have gone a little off topic but you might be able to tell it P!SSES me off big time!

Emo is not how you dress, it’s a type of music. Jimmy Eat World were one of the very first bands to be labelled as ‘Emo’ which stands for “EMOTIONAL.
Emo bands DO NOT just sing songs about how they lost their girl, or how depressed they are, but it seems that in this day and age that’s what they are being labelled as.
Emo isn’t just one category of music though, there is emo, screamo, hardcore, post-hardcore, indie etc etc the kids who dress in tight jeans (usually girls jeans from H&M - please correct me if I’m wrong) and slick their hair to the left or right depending on how the “feel and write poetry and diaries (as we are led to believe) are ‘Scene Kids’.
These kids listen to bands because they are cool not because they have a mind of their own. Usually if Kerrang mention their new album being “4 K’s or really good, then a scene kid will mention it to his friends and they will all go into HMV on Saturday and buy the latest MCR or Aiden album. Don’t get me wrong, Aiden are an awesome band, but these kids don’t seem to venture out and listen to bands that aren’t in this months Kerrang.

END OF RANT

Thankyou, Pie :xxx:

OR

Just wear what the heck you want (regardless of stereotypes) and listen to what you like (whether it's in Kerrang or not) and stop giving a poo about what other people think or label you/your clothes/music as :xxx: ....

Oh sorry, that was a silly idea wasn't it :)

CTFO my lovelies!
