That's a good way to weld them together, chamfering the two halves to a vee then doing multiple passes to build up the weld. Someone I here with more welding experience could tell you more about getting the maximum strength but this is a good starting point. It allows for the best penetration.

I cut  D's in the end of mine, the idea is the the D's oppose the torque while strengthened by the sleeve, the welds just hold it all together longitudinally.

Ran The engine in the frame again today for the last time to check for leaks etc

Well 4 years later and the mini has been pretty faultless with the only problem being a failed rad fan relay (rover item).

I've fallen out of the mini shows the last few years so there's not many pics so here's one from a local breakfast club meet

Would I build another VTEC mini - no. It is silly fast and alot of fun but my micra build beats it hands down for day to day use
