Not mechanical so won't wear out or bounce at high revs.
No open contacts so less prone to soggy breakdowns.
Have to see with this kit, but better switching means you can fire the plugs across bigger gaps which makes the engine run better.

correct me if im wrong but ive heard that its not a straight swap as the timing needs re setting after?

and guessworks, how much was it all together inc shipping?

By rights, fitting a new set of points is justification for checking the timing. I think any alteration would be minimal unless you increased the plug gap and even then the advance would still follow the same profile, you'd probably just need a little less.

Any modification or work on timing ignition gear would hopefully be followed by a timing check,

There should be less maintenance and less prone to sogginess with this though, (bad grammar I know), so setting the timing once is probably a small price to pay, and quite easily done.

I suspect they put the 'timing should be checked' caveat in the documentation to cover manufacturing tolerances in the magnetic ring which is built into the bespoke rotor arm.

The actual sensor is a straight bolt on replacement, with two wires, one plugs into your existing -ve coil feed to dizzy the other has an adaptor wire which links from the unit output to the +ve side of coil. Same as the ignitor, all fits into the dizzy unit and can use a std 12v ( possibly even ballast ) coil, so no need for special eletronic coil.

Total cost not including the 5% buy off web discount as it was easier to pay by paypal was £12.05 delivered first class recorded, and arrived on Tuesday after I ordered on Sunday, so no problems with delivery.

Going to install and throw mini through an MOT tomorrow ( well at least that means I'll be able to see if it works on the way to the MOT )

for £12 it could be buy of the century, however if you knoble the rotor arm you are going to have to buy a new one.. but I'm working on a fix for that too

it wont fix a knackered ignition system, but is a fit and forget replacement to points, which is what electronic ignition is...

actually there is one thing it'll fix... if the bushes in your dizzy are a little worn then it'll circumvent this as there will be no random change to the points gap (dwell).. which is something I'll measure when installed.

You'll have to say more than that! Did it work, what coil/ignition have you got, what plug gap did you run? What made you go back to points?

Producing the electronics is likely to be cheaper than the 'hard' engineering and materials involved in making a set of points.

Well that was *yellow human water* easy... < 30 minutes with a stubborn, philips adjuster on the points...

Fitted no issues, no adjustments to timing, car fired first time, and bear in mind this is my 1330 with an aldon dizzy and sports coil and has not been started since it's MOT ran out on the 5th of May....

In terms of replacing points, condenser and rotor arm for £12... bargain...

Edit..

Bloody hell... does this mean the luddite points man has just been converted to electronic... nah doubt it, will probably still set my engines up using points and then convert

Fineeee, here goes!

Literally removed points, checked the bobbings and springs etc all moved freely, niceee. Fitted elctronic ignition with my old coil, standard 12V non ballast. Ran the car for a week, superb, but when she became hot, the engine wouldnt rev, just knocking noises and no go. The problem only occured after the E.I so reverted back to the points system, no problems... hmmm. Since then I have changed the leads to High performances ones and have bought a brand new coil. I am still using the points. Havent found the courage to try the E.I again, although this time it might work. I'm tempted to try them again sometime soon with my new coil and leads. I ran the plug gaps at 0.030" > 0.032" or thereabouts.

I suspect what you found there was a change in the timing, a little too much advance which will manifest itself as pinking or knocking... They do say check the timing...
