has someone bought one of these?

I have them... everyones in on my secret now. :) I took mine off and put the points back on to be honest, didnt really help much at all :)

You'll have to say more than that! Did it work, what coil/ignition have you got, what plug gap did you run? What made you go back to points?

Producing the electronics is likely to be cheaper than the 'hard' engineering and materials involved in making a set of points.

Fineeee, here goes!

Literally removed points, checked the bobbings and springs etc all moved freely, niceee. Fitted elctronic ignition with my old coil, standard 12V non ballast. Ran the car for a week, superb, but when she became hot, the engine wouldnt rev, just knocking noises and no go. The problem only occured after the E.I so reverted back to the points system, no problems... hmmm. Since then I have changed the leads to High performances ones and have bought a brand new coil. I am still using the points. Havent found the courage to try the E.I again, although this time it might work. I'm tempted to try them again sometime soon with my new coil and leads. I ran the plug gaps at 0.030" > 0.032" or thereabouts.

I suspect what you found there was a change in the timing, a little too much advance which will manifest itself as pinking or knocking... They do say check the timing...

Timing was tried everywhere, even set up correctly with a strobe gun didnt do it any justice..

I think if you read the advert it claims not to matter what you use... coil wise that is...

Come pay day, and (more importantly) Guess-works analysis I'll be looking at one, so anyone who doesn't like theirs???

i do believe its a magic box that replaces the points and condensor, you plug it into each side of your coil i think, then it just .... works. lol

Witch craft?

I imagine it'll sense the cam location/rotation and use this to determine when to fire the ignition coil, which will then use the rotor arm & dizzy cap to fire the spark plug.

I think I understand, but it's hard to explain.

Mini passed MOT yesterday, and still pulls like a train... seems to be very little difference from my points setup...

just don't have to set them...

Will see if it makes any difference on a run when we go to Cannon Hill a week sunday, anyone want to have a butchers then by all means pop along to the Rugby stand and have a fiddle...

With the car before any of you pervs get the wrong idea....

The real beauty about these kits is that currently there's nothing else on the market that offers this value,.. not just face value,.. But in my eyes,... it's all about replacement value. These address the main problem of electric ignition modules,... if they break... you're rhubarbed!

Currently, if your Lumentition kit (or whatever type of 'leccynition' you have) breaks,.. that's it.. you break down and you can't fix it without putting points back on or calling the recovery truck to tow you home.... And no-one likes the thought of having to spend another £70-£80 for a spare part that you may or may not use.

So if you buy a couple of these.. heck even 3-4,... it means you can get yourself motoring on the road side in a few minutes, minimal cost,.. and you get to keep your 'non soluble' dizzy internals :)
