if you go for 10x8s you wont be able to find any road tyres that size .
bigest you will get is 165 70 10 for a 10x6 rim

Wrong!!! You can fit tyres to rims wider than 6 inch. Basicaly you just have to stretch the tyres over them. Ive seen 165/60x10 stretched over some rare 8x10s before(It was a black XE powered cabrolet in a mini mag) . When this is done the sidewall go ultra stiff so you get all the benefits of a low profile tyre.
Places such as Force Racing and Spectrum wheels do wheels this size. You will be very, very hard pushed to find some single peice alloys this wide but I have seen steels this wide. I recon they look propper Oldskool. The best bet is to find some split rims as you can get the perfect offset and they are by far the trickest wheels out.
The best example at the moment is a Blue turbo that was recently featured in Mini World.

I cannot believe anyone would be stupid enough to attempt stretching a 165mm ( 6.1/2 inches ) wide tyre over a 8 inch wheel you have got to be pulling something with bells on.
The only think I know which go that wide are racing tyres which are obviously not for road use ! eg. miglia

Spot on mate. Theyre the ones I was on about. Trust me, theirs nothing wrong in fitting 165s on wide rims. Carl Austin has a green road racer with 008s on and they look sweet as F with miglia arches. Give me a few moments and ill find some pics for you.
