you cannot tint the front three windows at all! they have to let in around 75% light

Oh and josh your fronts ARE illegal :D

Yep, and yep - Josh you'll have to sort that.

But there are very few ways police can check this, so if you have the front ones lighter than the back there isnt much chance of getting done for it as police cannot prove they are illegal.

Not so true, if a copper believes they are illegal he can pull u over and and call for someone to come out with a lazer gun that checks the tint. if they are illegal you have 2 choices smash your windows n carry on your way or the coppers take it to have them taken out. The second choice isnt the best when your miles from home at 11pm, not many places are open to take out your windows so the car gets impounded.

This is talking from experience.

I watched Traffic Cops and the cops pulled over a woman for having front window tints. Needs to have (I think he said) 70% light coming through.

And he tested it - he had a device for testing the amount of light coming through the tint. Clearly it was below regulation so he gave her two options, impound the car or PEEL off the tint. If it's just a layer of plastic stuck to the glass it peels off

i saw that. he was a right nob.
bet he got bullied at school haha.

I thin khe's trying to say the way the copper went about it wasnt very user friendly. The woman driving didn't know it was illegal and he was pretty harsh to her.

The funny thing is - and this goes for Josh - is that the companies that install these tints must know they're illegal on the front. The woman bought her land rover from the dealer with the tints on - that's got to be bad practice!

they changed the law on window tints a bit back and if you had the front ones done before that no one can make you take them out.

also just wind your window down when you see the pigs sorted.

there are very few of the laser machines to test the window i know there is only 2 of them in lancashire. (mates dads head of police)

plus being a mini we seem to get away with a little more than other cars,

Quoted from Vosa
(it doesn't matter when they were fitted)

Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 as amended
specify the minimum levels of light that must pass through the
windscreen and front side windows. The limits are:
Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of
light to be transmitted through them.
Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be
transmitted through them.
If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light,
then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.

front tints on that orange motor ARE illegal..
around March, i was with my mate when he got pulled over in his corsa, and was made to try scratching the front tints off, or get done for it... and yes we actually sat there for around 15 mins attacking the windows harshly to scrape it all off!

also note... an un-tinted window isnt letting through 100% light as it is! The glass already reduces this to something like 85-90% (not sure of the exact figures)

Yeh, I think most people would be amazed how subtle a tint would need be fitted to give 70% light transmission
