When I started out, I had absolutely no idea about anything! But you really do just pick things up as you go along and learn so much from the community and just through the ownership!

Good luck and I hope the Mini that you're looking at is what you want!

And of COURSE there will be photographs! It's going to be like having a new baby or new rats all over again!

Best of luck with the viewing, if you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask!

Getting your mini will be in time for SMD, then!

Enlist the services of someone who isn't. There may be a forum member nearby or an older rellie has very likely owned a Min in their youth. There's always the RAC or AA too, if you don't mind paying.

Did anyone mention the magnet test ?
Take a magnet (even a fridge magnet) and just touch it all over the car.
Where it doesn't stick, it isn't metal.
Prime places to check are the bottoms of the doors, the bottoms of the A panels (just in front of the doors)
around the headlights to test for front impacts, along the lower edge of the rear windows and around where
the roof meets the body - especially at the front.
If you find non-metal (i.e. filler or fibreglass) in these places it isn't the end of the world and most old minis will have some,
but it might be a good negotiating point when it comes to price if the seller hasn't told you (or didn't even know) !
Best wishes
Monty
