Take the centre bolt out of the puller, hold the puller in place and tighten the three outer bolts evenly and when I say evenly I mean they must all be threaded in the same amount so that you get a straight pull (make sure you use the right set of bolts for your flywheel, one set is verto and one is not and you can wreck a flywheel using the wrong ones. Also make sure you put the thick washers under the bolt heads or you will break the puller) . Now pull the puller up tight onto the bolt heads and hold the thrust block in the end of the crank while threading in the centre bolt. When it is touching the thrust block it is ready to use. Make sure the flywheel keyway is horizontal (whichever way up the engine is standing it must be horizontal) and turn in the bolt a few flats and the wheel will drop off. Have something nice to catch the wheel on (like an old cushion or something) as standard wheels are very heavy and it will surprise you how heavy it is when it drops.

Thanks Dan, Bluemini, Pavel and Guessworks, am pretty sure I can now get the flywheel off without ruining anymore of the engine!! Just hope that crank was a rare or really decent one!!
Just one question, I'm guessing the crank keyway is the slot that goes through the middle of crank?
