Sorry to hear about your Mini, and I hope that the insurance companies fix it rather than decide it's a loss.

Guys, dont let this develop into an argument.

Project, the truck driver IS at fault, anyone who drives LGV's for a living knows how difficult it is to see when you are reversing them, if he wasn't going to use his camera then he should have gotten out and checked behind before he moved back. Plus, he should have had his window open in case anyone yells or sounds a horn. (Sounds like he didn't here and kept on going regardless).

Sorry to hear of this accident because a few years back some dozy woman driving a large horse box lorry nearly reversed into our Mini.

Thankfully the cars behind reversed back in time to allow us to move out of the way.

I was not a happy bunny either though and gave her a right earful.

It doesn't, I'm just saying that for the amount of things a truck driver has to do whilst driving, compared to a car it's relatively easy to make a mistake - and this guy did.

You try driving a vehicle which fully loaded knocks the scales just short of 40 tonnes, has 14 wheels over 6 axles, 12+ gears and bends in the middle, then come whinging to me about the ;D driving so close behind you.

Im with you there fella ^^.The driver was in the wrong but people just dont realise when reversing an artic or the likes you cant keep an eye on the reversing camera 100% of the time as there are too many things to keep a look at such as the front end swing on a unit when reversing around a corner and the zero visability down the opposite side of the corner aswell as trying to watch the traffic after all of this you take a quick glance at the camera then it starts all over again. Im VERY sorry to hear about this accident and i hope no-one was hurt and all is sorted as soon as possible.

I can't believe you people are siding with the truck driver?

He was clearly at fault here regardless of anything else and what if a group of children or OAP's had been crossing the road behind his lorry?

It's a bit contradictory though... yes it must be hard to drive a big lorry hence the different tests you have to pass to get that bit added to your driving license.

The driver had obviously been trained to drive the lorry, and had the correct equipment and even admitted he didn't look at the camera and consequently didn't drive it properly. End of story in my opinion, I can't stand people who go on about how difficult it is to drive a lorry, that's not the point.

Yes he didnt look at the camera and im not siding with him just simply stating it isnt possible to keep you eyes glued to the reversing camera ;D

If the driver realised (which he should've done) that he wasn't 100% sure on where he was reversing he should've got out, and looked behind him, like someone else suggested earlier in the thread. That would've prevented this "accident" and that's the view that most people and the insurer will take too.

They would have got ran over?!! But it would have been silly for them to cross the road where theres a lorry reversing..

It sucks though that you got hit, hope it all get sorted soon ;D

I drove artics for forty years and never did anything like that. You should always know if there is something behind you, you can use the reflections from shop windows in towns and shadows etc if you cant see in the mirrors.
I never had a camera, was just always aware of vehicles etc close to my rig.
There is no excuse for reversing into another vehicle....

I agree that he should have got out, but on a busy road its all to easy to assume that because you got out and had a look behind everything is clear, but within 30 seconds there will have been multiple cars passed/stopped behind, in a perfect world a "watchman" should have been used but this aint always possible. As ive said the driver was in the wrong and the accident "could" have been prevented but everyone makes mistakes and this was his and not all wagon drivers are the same. As said before i dont want an argument just giving my opinion as a recovery driver ;D

its in the bodyshop as we speak but im worried that the insuruers might right her off cus its fibreglass and modified.????

The main thing is as it’s a fibreglass front end, if the engine/front subfame hasn’t been pushed back and bent the toe board/mounts then the shell should be unaffected, so even if it is written off, you might get the chance to buy it back and be able to stick a new front on it.
