I have decided to divert all attentions to the rebuilding of the 1330 ready for the showdown...

The 1400 is being scrapped, well the block at least, the break through to the pressure relief valve is terminal.

So soon to be on the for sale section, 1 set of 74mm pistons...

So here goes....

A series (Austin 1300GT) block bored to +.060" and decked
21253 HC pistons ( tdc flush with block face so should be pushing nearly 11:1 cr )
Std rods
Tuftrided crank
kent 290 degree scatter cam ( old but in perfect nick )
Kent silent chain drive ( looks like new after 30,000 miles )
Cooper S head, bronze guides, mild porting, welded pressed steel rockers.
Ultralight billet flywheel and back plate, grey pressure plate ( anyone want to swap for an orange ? )
HIF44, or maybe twin HIF6's depending if I get them built soon enough..
Maniflow LCB, and 1.7/8 twin box exhaust..

Gearbox, depending on what I get after this evenings ebay expenditure, may have set of straight cut drops and SCCR gearbox.

but at worst it will have a helical close ratio (cooper S) box with 3.44 CWP on a tranx x-pin diff with std A drops.

ooh.... anyone got a parachute I can put on the back.... .lol !

am very jealous - quite a similar spec to my 1293 from Morspeed - which unfortunately I won't have a complete car to put it in!

Keep us updated with how it goes, and I'll look forward to going against you at the showdown in the Polo! :(

Right, typical, I get a week off and what does it do... bl**dy rain !

So I'll have to stay in the garage

The engine is just about stripped and ready for the dip !

The bores have just bee checked against the new rings on the 21253's (dished by the way) and ar running a 12 thou gap, which is about perfik...

There's going to be a crank swap for the one which I was going to put in the 1400, as I already have new shells for that, saves a few pennies, and also gotta fit the pistons to the con rods, oh how do I hate doing that.

I'll take some piccies as I put it together...

Yesterdays progress, well whet there was of it, but that's another story...

Completely stripped then engine and dipped it to clean the debris of the surface bores etc...

And cam out nice an shiney and I'd forgotten it was blue, also notice can still se the original MED writing on the side when I had the block machined 4 years 30k miles ago.

First a quick hone ( or glaze braker ) for the new pistons and rings... I was also quite surprised that after 30k miles there was not much of step at the top of the bore from the old piston rings.

Next new cam bearings.... Make sure when you are fitting these you put them in so that you do not obscure the oil ways...

Next the joy of putting in pistons, and as luck was not on my side, snapped an oil ring on number one as it when in... profuse swearing for 5 mintes followed, but nothing stopping me from putting in the rest, and I must admin was very pleased to see the piston deck to the bore at TDC....

You can't see it too well on the next photo becase of the bling shine from the new pistons...
