Ebay purchase didn't pay off, engine advertised as SC gearbox and drops, after stipping had neither... not chuffed at all !!! not having a good week...
But, Main strap is now done, £5 local engineering firm, can see them getting some more business...
Back on with the build....
More piccies later...

I also finished of putting on the the timing gear, and timing the cam. This being an early kent 290 degree scatter cam, it was set @ 106 degrees. But the surprising thing and shows how useful an adjustable drive is, when I put it on set with the original timing from my old 276 ( set @ 104 degrees) the actually timing was 110 !, that's a 6 degree shift in timing and is all down to the positioning of the woodruff key on the cam.

That was Yesterday... today, I thought I would give the gearbox the once over, the synchro on 4th had been playing up, and I wanted to drop in the GT 1st motion and Laygear to chage the ratios...
To my horror I spotted a crack in the web which retains the third motion (double roller) bearing. Basically curtains for the case...

This necessitated the complete strip and rebuild of one box today... but this did present me with the oportunity to gaze at the Tran-X X-Pin dif for a while though.
Oh. took loads and loads of photies, so will be doing a how to on that aswell, letting away some of the trade secrets :cheese:

The gearbox is now complete, I changed to using an A+ (large Idler) case as this gives me the option on using both types of drop, so when I do get some s/cut ones I'll be able to convert fairly quickly, but I still retained the A series GT gear set. Also meant that I could use up one of the boxes which I could not get clean enough on the inside for a customer box, hence why it looks a bit dirty on the inside..

I have the advantage that I'm not short of cases so that one on the scrap pile now.. it was mare the fact that I had to spend a day stripping and rebuilding the thing into another case... which I may add is now stuck to the bottom of the engine...
