That's the way it is with older cars... and your Elf is certainly in that category. When you take one part off for repairs it develops into a plethora of "while I'm at it" additional repairs. I feel your pain. We just bought a '72 Triumph Spitfire as a learning tool for my sons. I'm already experiencing the same cascading repair situation with it and we haven't even fired the engine up yet.
