Evening folks. I'm planning to make a replica Paul Smith mini for the Mrs, The stripy one, not the purple one!

Obviously it has lots of colours, but does anyone have any decent close-up, preferably high res pics of it? Or any pics of it at all?
I've found a few, but nothing really big enough to find the right colours.

This is the one I mean

Thanks!

They use the same design on the perfume bottles if this is any help, and your gal is lucky that looks like it will take ages!

Maybe a month? There are 83 different shades of colour on that design!

:w00t: I know! A day at the paint shop should sort it out, but I need good pics to reference them. The brown and green are easy enough.

I would imagine Paul Smith owns one of them, and the other is in a collection probably. There is at least one other replica going about

The photo you have there is of the one owned by Paul Smith. They use it for the photoshoots for their products. That is in fact a Japanese spec mpi (automatic with airconditioning). I think it was probably the one made for the Japanese Motor Show, so I guess Paul Smith brought it back here. I have lots of photos of it from when it went to the Ace Cafe for the photoshoot for their 2007 range of products.

The one that was on show in the Design Exhibition in London is owned by the Germans and was on display at the IMM in Holland. The colouring is different and it's a manual British spec car. I took lots of photos of that to compare them.

There are rumours there was a third, but I don't know for sure. I've certainly seen photos of others, but they could well be copies.

So which one are you planning on copying?

Just a thought, but have you considered doing the whole car in vinyl? They can wrap a whole car with just about any design for a few thousand (USD), maybe less for a Mini. It will last 2 or 3 years at least. Definitely not as nice as painting it, but might be infinitely easier.

Good luck either way.

I'm a painter, I couldn't have a car in vinyl! that would be cheating :w00t:

Ooh fantastic! some good info there. Could I see pics of both? I'd probably go for the nicest colour scheme, are they that different?

If it's easier to e-mail pics, my address is [email protected]. Thanks!
