Arrrghhhh. Sorry to hijack your topic Sazal, but the advice these people are giving out is illegal. If you change any component on your car to something non-standard then you have to tell your insurance company. If you don't want the hike in insurance then don't add the dam modification! Anything you don't declare is just giving your insurance company grounds to void your policy in the event of a claim. Consider worst case scenario; you hit someone accidentally and kill them. Their relatives pursue compensation and your insurance company walks away because you had undeclared mods, now your faced with a bill for a few million pounds. Yea, great advice that was! If your not going to declare modifications then you might as well not even bother with insurance, because after not declaring your insurance isn't worth the paper its written on.
The advice your giving out is to do something illegal, which is worthless advice on these forums and advice I'd rather not see again.
Now, back on topic....
I've heard about cheap Stage 1 kits actually losing performance, or not adding any. Not sure how they managed that though! A well designed stage 1 kit should give you between 5-10 bhp more though.

I thought most insurance companies allow you to have a stage 1 kit fitted at no extra cost??

Hey Sarah!!
You DO need to declare it, as Jammy and others have said. What have they actually asked for? Have you said 'stage one kit' to them, and then they say 'How much BHP?'
If they are asking specifically how much BHP, I would go along the lines of 'I'm advised about 5-10' and see if they accept that... I'd be very suprised if they didn't, and there is still a good chance of not increasing your premium, I would think... Good luck!

we have just gone through having to insure our mini, and we have declared everything... even the fact that we have made our own dash. even though it is the standard shape it is not the standard dashboard.
at the end of the day if anything is on the car that is not factory standard you have to declare it.
as for it adding to the power of the car, only a RR will tell you that. and most cars lose BHP the older they get so you may be just putting it back up to the standard bhp
when i told the insurance company about having the kit which is the exhaust, air filter and new needle they just said ok. didnt ask about performace or anything
