no my plate isnt a personal plate, its just become personal to me lol. in that case it looks like i may have to use this shell and straighten it out and weld new bits on. but all that will probably cost about the same as a brand new shell from minispares as i dont want to do that welding myself, id rather pay to have a well and truely pro job done. would a new shell from minispares need to be on a Q plate or would it manage to bypass some of this bureaucracy?

and we cant have any illegalities now :D no matter how tempting! *rants about the idiots in charge of england*

ill keep you updated lol. if i dont get a call from either the insurers or the engineer place tomorrow im going to give them a good ol' ear bashing :(

we need a chat i think oli :D

but seriously mate, how much is it going to cost for the panel work?

both wings
both inner wings
scuttle
front panel
flitch panels / door hinge panels
bonnet
subframe
engine
headlights
grill
bumper
tie bars

i would think you would get away with the floors, sills and the bulkhead once the car is stripped out you can use some tools of large persuasion.

if you wanted the whole job done we could take a drive down to full circle, or i could get the chap to meet us and give you a trully brutal opinion.

yeah, i agree we do need a chat.

that list is about it, still not 100% sure the bulkhead can be saved but havent seen it fully yet.

dont worry about the engine as i was getting a 1275 to play with anyway and im in no rush to get it back on the road. this will be a proper restoration job, hence many moneys of mine will be lost.

but just concentrating on the shell for the time being. need to find out what is possible legally and best in the interest of the car so i can get a plan of action together. then, as soon as the insurance and replacement car is sorted, i can crack on with it.

thanks for the help...again lol. your keeping my hopes up. as soon as i can get my hands on her and crowbar open the bonnet ill take lots of pics of everywhere. a meeting with full circle and a very honest opinion would be a great idea aswell. got nothing to lose. :D

well i should be able to convince the owner of full circle to come have a look.

end of the day, if you want to keep her then i would still keep the insurance away from her totally!!

thanks mate :(

i know thats what im thinking :D i have a very big feeling ill be cancelling my claim in the next few days. but whatever happens they wont take her. if they start saying 'write off...too bad to repair...etc etc etc' i will that second cancel the claim and they cant do anything as the claim hasnt been settled, so she's still not their property at that time.

couple of days ago my dad said half seriously, 'if they come to see it and say its a complete write off, we'll give you £1500 but you cant buy the car back, what would you say?' in a split second i said no deal and he looked so shocked that i would turn down £1500, so i think he now knows my full intentions lol

Windsceen surround inc scuttle - £168.14
Wing '88-'96 L/H - £ 62.50
Wing '88-on R/H - £ 70.50
Bonnet - £ 98.99
Bonnet lock Mk3 on - £ 21.07
Subframe 1300cc '90-'97 - £315.49

will be upgrading brakes probs to 4 pots and needed new driveshafts anyway so will do that. engine will be 1293 stage 3 with new/refurbed carbs (confirmed spec to follow later). new RC40 twin DTM system

anything ive missed out?

do you have to egt everything new? i doubt the insurance is goingt o pay so why not get a secondhand subby and use non gen M-machine panels as it will work out much cheaper.

yeah probably will get the subby and other bits second hand, but from what ive heard im not keen on using non-genuine panels. as long as its really good quality work though, i want this to be a proper job! no cutting corners

You can legally reshell a car with a brand new heritage shell, it is the ONLY way you can reshell legally without needing to get a Q plate. (From what I understand)

most people said it would never see the light of day again but they were all wrong and thats one of the best feelings, apart from getting to drive it :proud:

i used m-machine panels, and a good friend done the work. i think all in all it tured out to cost 7-800 monies to get the bodywork done and painted  suppose its who you know not what you know...

mine doesnt look as bad as yours, so have it checked before you spend anything on it

heres the thread i done on the rebuild so you can see the extent of the damage and compare youre own

yeah mine looks like its a bit more squashed :D your thread was very encouraging tho. ill also look at m-machine panels and have a quick rethink. when you got panels welded on and he started to look like a mini again, you mustve felt a huge sense of achievement! cant wait for that part ;D

do you use rowan as your daily still? thats my plan for baby.

also got the engineer coming round on thursday. they dont know what time though :D

i didn't use any genuine panels on my mini oli.

the guy that panelled my mini up has been in the trade 40 years and said from his experience it is more down to the fitter than the panels. "if the fitter is any good they don't need geniune panels".

im pretty sure you could get all the panels you need from e-gay for lots less, save for the inner wings.

my advice is do it properly but don't hang your hat on pricey genuine panels - there are some very good pattern parts out there and lots of second hand bits too.
