I don't think the downforce is meant as an aid to get your car to grip better, but to push the blade on to the windscreen, therefore making it remove water more effectively. Whether this means they are melons when your sat at traffic lights I'm not sure.

Bit of a bump here, but I've done it!

Going to BH2N next week, and we all know how terrible mini wipers can be, so I thought I'd see if it was possible to fit aero wipers onto a mini, and it is!

Mini's made after 1990 had hook ended wiper arms, like those on many modern cars. so you need a set of them. which as no bad thing as they seem much stiffer than the thin stainless or chrome replacements most people have. the springs are also nice and strong.

I measured the mini wiper blades at 11'', then found some 11'' aero blades on ebay, destined for the rear of a cinquecento, for a whopping £8.90 the pair!

here is the result:

the arms arn't painted yet (big thanks to mymini007 for those), and I won't be able to try them on the car until friday, but the blades seem to be good quality, they fit the arms perfectly and are exactly the length of standard mini wipers.

I've also measured up the space free on the screen, and found I could get away with larger 12'' blades too, so I've ordered a set of them to try as well, to see if i can increase the wiped area for even better visibility.

I'm not totally sure how they will look on the mini, but if they make the same improvement that the upgrade made on my dailly, I'll be very happy :)

So, to answer the original question, almost a year after it was posted:

Yes, you can fit modern style aero wipers to a mini.

Very clever! Made me chuckle about the increased downforce too, but did anyone really think they were talking about the whole car?? :)
Thats why modern cars have these aero wipers, since they are designed to press the blades into the screen and thus clear it more effectively.
I'd love to see some pics of them fitted, looks like something I'd like to try, since my wiper on the passenger side flaps about wildly lol

Darn you prawn! I was going to do this on my car and I wanted to be first!

I never knew ciquento rear blades were the right length though, nice find! I was intending on doing surgery to them and shortening a longer pair :).

I want to see them on the car, chop chop!

I'm hoping they do a better job than the mini ones at high speed! over 80 in the rain the mini ones do nothing and I have to just about stop. the mini ones also lift terribly at anything above 60 or so, so these should be a worthwhile investment!

Has anyone else done this before at all? I've been looking for a way to do it for ages, and only realised it would be possible when i saw a mid 90's mini with the hook ended arms, so got searching on ebay for the blades :)

Pics of them fitted comming on friday night
