The wireless range may only be 60cm's but giving me the ability to mount it on my steering wheel is quite handy.

If i was to put it on the inside of my wheel would it not need re-balancing? This sounds cool, was thinking of making a new dash over the sumer!!! Possibly one of these LED rev counters someone is building as well?!!!

For the wheel , you could either
1. Clemical Metal the magnet on, then get the wheel balanced.
or
2.Fit two of the same magnets at opposite sides of the wheel, remembering to set the rotation to half of what 1 complete turn is. In effect this will make the speedo more accurate at higher speeds.
60cm's was plenty enough. as i purchased a reed switch from maplin for 30p and soldered it so that the switch was near the wheel/pot joint and the transmitter was at the base of the steering wheel.

oh yeah and forgive me if i'm incorrect but i was under the impression that it was a legal requirement to have a legal calibrated speedo
You don't need a speedo for MOT, its not illegal not to have a speedo just illegal to speed
check with the DVLA and whoever but i'm fairly sure its illegal not to have a correctly set speedo ( because then u cant tell if u r speeding or not)
