well i went to leeds yesturday for a concert and on route there were some killer !! pot holes. So they presumably loosened the bottom caliper bolt, which fell out, this leaving one bolt holding the caliper on. so theres me driving like a normally do, fairly hard and as i go over one big pot hole there was a loud metalic KUdennnmke. So i keep going and I notice as i slowed down and broke that the left front wheel was making a scraping noise not disimilar from when my rear shock died. So i keep going and as i aproach the lights and start slowing down the front wheel locks and the car screeched to a halt. I then tried to set off and the car wouldnt move like i was anchored, so i had to floor it to make the car move. I keep going and it locks again as i slow down, I pulled over but couldn't see anything. I kept going and the same thing happened this anothwer 8 times and made some heroic the cars gonna die on you noises. untill i got to the garage and borrowed a jack and some tools, as i removed the wheel i find the caliper drops to the floor and its got a great chunk missing where it mounts to the hub.The top bolts finger tight and the bottom one isnt there !!!!
so i had to take the top arm bolt out and used that to bodge the caliper on and now i need a new caliper, pads and its damaged the disc and wheel inside.
so i drove all the way to bradford to try and get a bolt to fit I went to BBN Bradford Bolts and Nuts go what i thought was the right size bolts. Got back ot leeds at Apex motors run by a good friend of mine Tony and they were the wrong bloody bolts.
So I just left it as I was due to go to the Patrick Wolf concert at the *male chicken* pit that night so i drove to the flat got changed and went for the concert which was ace!!!
But then this morning i had to drive back with much fear and trepidation not going faster than 50 for fear of death
so yeh theyre the day from Heaven and Hell i experience
lucky side is i wont feel bad for buying new mintex 1144s now as i need them lol

Ooooooo, fight fight fight ha ha.
But that was realy stupid, I lost a caliper bolt once, car made a grinding noise when I broke, I stopped, got in my mates car and didn't drive it again until It was fixed. Your dumb.

Just re-read it, at all of these points did you not think that maybe just maybe the car was not fit for use?

How about fear of killing other people, as for 50mph with dodgy brakes, you're a fool, 5mph should have been about tops!
What this should have said was
My car made a grinding noise and wheels locked, so I carefully moved out of the way of the traffic at the first possible place to investigate. I found a cliper bolt missing, and decided to call the RAC/AA to take my car home, where I left it til it was fixed!
Bodging it at home then driving it again, foolish, unsafe car, if you'd been stopped you'd have been in all sorts of trouble. Please, please think about other people even when your being reckless with your own life and don't do it!
Now goa nd fix that car properly before you think of moving it again, and at least show some sort of remorse for driving like an idiot.
Dave
P.S. Once you've been flamed a bit more feel free to ask a mod to close the thread!

It's a bleedin' miracle.
I agree with Jimmy Carr, the Gene Pool does need heavily chlorinating once in a while.

Your telling me you knew that there was a problem with the BRAKES, a vital part of the car, and yet you still carried on!!

I had secured the caliper with 2 bolts i had and to be honest the response along this line dictate what i think is wrong with this site too many opnionated a**es
if u were stuck 1 hour away from home and had no other alternative what would u do and the only reason i kep going is i thought at the time it was the bolt to the flange so though was better to get to a garage and fix it

Dude, Minis and mechanical stupidity are not a good mix. if you hear a noise, and the car stops, there's usually a bloody good reason for it!

If i was in your situation id have pulled over somewhere safe, put hazzards on and rang a recovery service

FIrst thing I'd do is pull over and get out. then check to find out exactly what the noise was, and what danger I could be in.
