You are doing great Mark.

Everything looks spot on.

How long before the body comes back?

Thanks Ben

Next Christmas at this rate

The same chap who painted Jays car is doing it for a very reasonable price so I’m in no mad rush really
Plus it’s in the dry as I lost the garage it was in so it would be sitting on my drive under a cover going rusty

He said it should be started on mid week next week but I’ll leave him to it
I’m not looking forward to putting it back together on the drive over the winter but hey ho mate

Once you get the panels on and the glass in and have it rolling, everything else will fall into place easily and at least it will be watertight

Not much done today as its been cold and wet but progress is progress

Thought Id spray all the seams on the front subframe with some cavity wax Ill clear wax it when its on the car and finished
Ive got a feeling its going to be sitting around for a wee while longer 🙂

All helps to keep the rust at bay
Anyway thought Id refurb my clutch master cylinder
I was going to replace it but it worked fine before I stripped the car so Im just replacing the internal seals and Ill tidy it up a bit

All went back together really well
Ive just given the bottom part a lick of paint as it was fairly rusty the rest of it got a good scrub up in hot soapy water

I quite like the patina look and its nice to be keeping some of the cars original parts
plus a new one is £70 so that swung it for me ha ha 🙂

Looking really good!  I replaced my master cylinders, but I kind of wish I would've just refurbished them.  Yours looks great!

Same as before primer paint then new seals hardest part is getting the outer seal ring in place really easy to bend it up as I found out

With those done it was onto the starter motor

Piece of cake really hardest part was putting the Carbon brush housing back on simplest way I found was to remove the little plastic clips that hold the brush springs in place then push the brushes back in the housing and popped it on
Then its just a case of popping the springs back in followed by the retaining clips

Mark, amazing project! Love the attention to detail. Which bodyshop are you using? I'm trying to find one in the West mids/brum area that will do my mini shell!

Great work!

I think you have just given me the confidence to take my starter to bits and refurb it rather than buying another! :highfive:  thanks!

Popped down the body shop today

Quite nice to see the car again
Roof has been sorted and is in primer he had to repair the rear roof channel it always had a really thin gap between the roof and channel on the rear left ( I thought it was how it was made lol 😂) so hes straightened it out and used a hammer and dolly nice even gap now 😃
hes about half way through the filler work it had quite a few dents and dings that needed doing but its looking better now
Its a really busy body shop as you can see by the pics the mini in the second pic ( far right ) belonged to an old fella who lives by me I remember it as a kid 😀 its in for a full refurb new front end , sills all the usual stuff think its an E reg 1988 model
Slow progress but Im in no rush to have it back this side of Christmas
