After some time being sat in the garage I've started the build on my 1990 studio 2..
It came off the road a year or so ago needing all the standard work up front...
Im going for a fast road sprint car with 1310 and 40s. I have already made a fair start on the project by removing the front end and making up a carb bulkhead box,, which still needs finishing but im quite happy with it..

After the welding is done im rewiring the car with a custom loom and going through all the drivetrain..
The rear end has already been done a few months before coming off the road with new subframe radius arm rebuilds and every bush bolt and line..
Im new to the whole running a thread so i shall try my best to keep it updated..
Here goes..Attached File  IMG_82378486951404.jpeg   42.68K   23 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82369847668196.jpeg   39.25K   9 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82246111120571.jpeg   37.2K   1 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82242402555779.jpeg   35.39K   8 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82222060088154.jpeg   47.18K   7 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82255662891278.jpeg   32.41K   5 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82232808151446.jpeg   26.31K   5 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82229355513695.jpeg   27.74K   3 downloadsAttached File  IMG_82261628754446.jpeg   28.6K   4 downloads

So once the front was stripped and before i had any panels i decided to take the bulkhead mod..
I didn't want to buy a box that welded in so i made my own version that flowed abit better and wasn't as drastic as a miglia or as box shaped as the box shaped box.... see what you think

After the bulkhead was done is when i had ran out of go go and the project stopped for a while.. Until now hurray.. since starting back up i have welded in most of the repair panels i need to get it on the road.. Im not going for originality im just aiming to make it solid so i can finally get it on the road and have some fun..Attached File  IMG_84077165285238.jpeg   38.97K   5 downloadsAttached File  IMG_84079765962362.jpeg   36.36K   4 downloadsAttached File  IMG_83986899743904.jpeg   31.12K   3 downloadsAttached File  IMG_83980221117155.jpeg   57.87K   5 downloadsAttached File  IMG_83968185811695.jpeg   52.42K   2 downloadsAttached File  IMG_83977309628403.jpeg   39.48K   3 downloads

I thought i would list out the general plans that i had in mind for the final result ..

Body..

2 piece fiberglass or carbon front end
group 5 arches but depends on wheel choice
perspex windows
fiberglass boot lid
running 12s at the moment but will be stepping down to 10s

Paint..

Im ginger... i know lame... but going with the standard orange and black.
Black roof arches and detail work in black
with bright orange body

Suspension..

Hi-los
full heavy duty alighnment kit
its already been almost fully Poly bushed when i replaced the rear subby
rebuilt top arms (rear radius arms already done)

Engine..

I brought a 1991 cooper 1275 engine that had been fully rebuilt about 8 years ago and just sat in a garage.. i got it for a bargain price of 300 it has had a bore out to 1293 and fitted with metro head and mild cam.. (not sure which one yet he couldn't remember what he put in) Attached File  IMG_102861972925092.jpeg   43.09K   1 downloads
dropped it into the mini ran it in and it started to smoke on the way to MITP a couple years back..
After a compression check all 4 came up equal and within tolerance so i had guessed it was the oil control ring?? It may of been stuck or abit rusty after being built and not run for a long time..
I don't really know yet lol i will be tearing it down once i have finished with all the grinding.

But either way im planning on taking it out to 1310 with lightened and balanced bottom end 649 cam high lift rockers and twin 40s.. I would like to go straight cut box also but it will all depend on funds available at the time..
Just trying to build a lairy revvy lil race car that me and a few mates can take to track days and events..
Im trying to compete with a swift gti so its got to rev well.

Interior..

Bare..
Stripped out weight saving.. within reason..
Cage bucket seats and a couple gauges.. nice and clean..

Here's a couple photos of it when i first got the mini in 2012 with Dans now turbo beast Attached File  IMG_103010549640174.jpeg   96.87K   13 downloadsAttached File  IMG_103007326701634.jpeg   46.45K   4 downloads

subframe seam welded ready for fit Attached File  IMG_102895729016175.jpeg   79.36K   3 downloads

Looks like a good project.

Rear tyres in first pic looks like it's got some extreme stretch going on :P or is it just the pic

Yeah it has to be 10's! Will have to pop over when mines back on the road, shouldn't be long just finishing bits up now (see my thread for sweet pics lol) Is your mate a good sprayer? I have a few spots that look suspiciously like rust under paint that i would like fixing ha
