I like the idea of a R/C boat. :highfive:  I could get a hull made by another enthusiast, but need to get the mini and BMW sorted first. O_O  :shy:

And at £50 it isn't expensive, even if the cheap Chinese electric do let it down and gives me something to start with.

I just need to find/buy a rudder (it uses the twin motors for steering), esc and 27mhz receiver. Although that last one doesn't seam to be as a available on eBay (thought you could pick up a hpi one for a tenner), so I might have to find a cheap 2.4ghz transmitter/receiver combo.

Although on the subject of the hull. With it being made from abs plastic, can I just use normal car body filler to neaten up a few bits or would I need to use something else?

I'm making a heat shield for the MCD. Need some self adhesive heat resistant tape for the sheild, and wrap for the exhaust pipe. :shades:

Once I've replaced what's left of the gears in my now knackered diff (really should stop doing full throttle donuts) I'll be looking round for new places to run it. Thought I'd found a new gravel bmx track/public park that just been finished locally, Although the council have already screwed that one up with signs up banning motorbikes, mini-motos, quads and model vehicles from using it or risk prosecution.

And I have a running issue I need to get to the bottom off. It runs fine when its cold, but as it warms up it runs slower and slower until it finally dies and quits running and refuse to restart. And when I do try to restart it by re-priming it you can hear the fuel burring off/hissing as its squirted into the carb.

I like electric as I find it quite amusing running through very muddy puddles. Have a traxxas emaxx with a 18v dewalt motor in it. not as quick as new fangled brushless stuff but will gladly take being water and mud logged.

I keep looking around for an electric off road 2 or 4wd buggy. But everything I keep looking at seams ott, over priced, or well out of my budget when I have to factor in the cost of new lipo batteries, charger and radio etc.  As brushed motors are cheap and 7.2 volt nimh stick packs are only a tenner each.

I just need something simple but not too basic, preferably brushed, handles well and has a good avalabity of spares.

I have 2 tamiya mad Bulls. Very cheap off road buggy of the old school. Basically a small buggy with monster truck tyres. Old brushed motors 540 and 27mhz radio gear. Great fun.

I had been looking at Tamiya's, either a TL-01B or a new Mad bull or Rising fighter.

The only thing is I do have my doubts about the durability of the mad bull, as the TL-01's are prone to cracking round the suspension mountings. Wheather of not with some drilled out 12mm hexes, some different wheels could be fitted on the front/rear? And the lack of bearings and oil shocks puts me off, witch also adds to overall cost.

tl01s are too low to be any real use off road. my mad Bulls have been excellent. Only breakages or wear have been drive hexes and the steering system isn't fantastic. Also wouldn't bother with oil shocks or anything on them as they always handle rubbish anyway lol still good fun though huge power slides and bouncing all over the shop and impossible to control in reverse.
Tamiya don't make the most complex or fastest kits but I have always enjoyed the simplicity and quirkyness. Vanessa's lunchbox is one I have always wanted but never got around to.

On a side note the tl01s do crack but it's a very cheap fix. New chassis sides can get fake ones that are 10 a pair etc. Also have a look at the wild dagger tamiya. Twin motor and can be easily be made 4ws too.

The other problem with the TL-01's is the stock gearing is just far too high for anything other than a standard 27 turn, add in some larger wheels for extra ground clearance and its just asking for hot running/burned out motors.

Very true 21t is about as hot as I dare run especially with lipo. That said I have converted one with a 50t motor into a flatbed truck to carry my mini crawler.

I did very briefly try a 15 turn motor with a 12 turn esc, speed tuned gear set (makes the gearing even worse) and 2200 nimh. Within 2 packs the motor and esc were cooked. Speed wasn't that impressive, as the motor was being over worked and it didn't even have enough torque to spin the wheels up from a standstill.
