So after many thoughts of keeping the original grill. and the bonnet lip i have ended up with this.
prefer the mk1 front end look so ive cut the bonnet lip off. and have come up with a idea that i can use the original grill with the bonnet lip which will be removable so i can switch between what grill i want to use :)

when i purchased the car the carpets and seats where taken out as the previous owner said there was a little water leak somewhere and was getting wet under investigation to try and find it i never did. was dry for a few months then started to get wet on the floor again the previous owner said it had been repaired before but that obviously wasnt the source to the problem. anyway as im going for show spec. and will be used some track days. i didnt like the look of the inner sills looks although before hand its been repaired instead of cutting the panel out its was just patched over. so as im gonna be running the car with no sound proof or carpets i didnt like the idea of looking at the patches so decided a new inner sill door step and outer sill was the only option.started cutting a proding i have found this.

The floor is solid just the inner sills

things got a little worse while investigating the inner sills.

THIS WAS FULL OF FILLER !!!

WAS TIME TO REMOVE IT ALL AND ENDED UP WITH THIS ! in all honestly it was that bad wasnt rotted atal inside.

It's amazing how something can look solid enough and then with a bit of a poke it suddenly becomes a mass of rust and holes. Good work though - well done

Your correct there Mrbounce. i dug around to find out what happened and imformation came back the lady owner always had a mechanic that always got it through a mot. no surprise there by the work that was carried out.

anyhow its done proper this time and the car is completely rot free just those patches that i wasnt happy with. deadline is around end of april ready for L2B this years :)

Nice little project, I feel the pain from having a car that looked on the floors to having to cut the whole of the inner sill etc out mine was due to over sills but still it didn't look as bad as it all turned out.

Keep the pics coming :)

Excellent progress. You going to give the gearbox work a go yourself?

Thanks guys :) none of this was never part of the plan. the intention was to put it away for the winter to do engine work and just redesign the whole interior and have the car painted the body is immaculate. besides the inner sills, the car has never been touched so this is the first time the car has been cut apart.  plans changed and wasn't happy with over plates on inner sills so had to go. the paint is original from factory apart from the roof which was sprayed white.

Car will have a resh repsray in the same color as its currently like 50 shades of red due to sun damage, but what red car doesn't lol
Update later on progress of passenger side

Stay tuned :)

No im  gonna take the gearbox to a  local mini specialist to save up some time so can crack on with the rest of the welding. otherwise i would do it myself !
