Bought a 1976 Mini 1000 to retore - Not too bad needs the normal rust repairs etc, intended to make a stripped out 'Café Racer' style car.

It has the orange striped interior in good condition and a few other bits that initially I was going to sell as they don't really do it for me. But has quite a bit of history with the car and the last owner had intended to bring it back to original spec.

On looking into these limited edition cars seems like they might be quite rare (only 3000 made I believe) so it now doesn't feel right to do anything else but restore it to original spec.

Trouble is I then end up with a car I don't really want,   any thoughts anyone?

Cheers

Paul

maybe sell it or swap it with some cash your way, for a base model or cheaper city / mayfair and do your mods to that instead ?

it would seem a shame to seperate the interior from the car, and if you have no real personal attachment to it someone else will I'm sure

Yes , maybe, at the moment plan is to do it as original as possible then see if I get attached to it!  If not I can always sell it on.  If anyone is interested I will post photos of progress.

My first mini was a 30, had all intentions to make it low and wide but after looking into the history just ended up restoring it. I did end up becoming attached to it then someone crashed into the back of it and wrote it off, this was when a taxed and tested mini was £600 so that was that. My current car was a rolling shell so because it was a blank canvas I wasn't worried about turning it back into an 850 so I just built it as I pleased.
If you got the storage keep the standard stuff and modify as you see fit. If not then start to restore it and see how you feel, if you don't feel the love just sell the bits and modify it as you please. I'm sure someone will use the bits to restore another either way.

What happened with this? Was it in green or white? There are only a handful of Mini Stripey out there, as far as I know. It would be great to save it and restore it to its original condition, like I'm doing with mine.

Good luck.

Victor.
