Hi im George, 21 from west essex! heres the story... i got a mini mayfair project as a birthday present when i was 14, however, the time came to go to university and i had to sell up (100% regret)! so after the mistake i promised myself that once i have the money, i will take another mini project under my wing and raise it as one of my own!

I have just bought another mini mayfair with a little 998 engine, however, its in bits. i never planned to shortcut the last project so this is gunna be a complete restoration build and i am aiming for L2B 2017! if your interested in following my post throughout then please do so, also any questions are welcome and i hope you enjoy!!!

so the 2 pictures are the current state of the car as purchased, i assisted the previous owner to strip the car, however under current circumstances, he regrettably had to sell up. so i told him i would buy the car as he wanted an owner to look after it!

The shell came back from blasting and rust inhibiting.... welding requirements as follow: Both under sills need replacing, a small section of the drivers floor pan, the boot floor, and at the bottom of the rear quarter windows!

this will be picture heavy but everyone loves photos so lets do it!

The engine build is all go as that is my field of expertise! the dredded white sludge and corrosion was found in the water pump and sitting in the head under the thermostat! Not a good start however that is what we are here for!

The head has been removed for work, the flywheel had to be cut off due to stuck on (presume it had forged itself, not happy), new thermostat studs are needed as they sheered... again with the corrosion, ports need cleaning from years worth of carbon.

i dont want to disturb the bottom end too much im just going to open her up and look for signs of corrosion and water. could not pressure test as head was already off so ive made the decision that if it doesnt fire up after paint i shall do a conversion!

so here is the old girl before it was stripped!

Looks like a nice project. Good luck with it.

Did you get the shell blasted locally? Pondering whether to get mine done when I eventually start

Components are everywhere so i picked up the first thing i looked at. Today i stripped the steering rack assembly, bead blasted, re greased, re assembled and masked up for paint. all major components under the car are to be painted 2 pack gloss black apart from subframes. Photo of the steering rack ready to paint tomorrow.

The steering rack got a coat of paint today and the gloss black is looking A1! Started to tear apart the radius arm assemblies so another update soon!
