Hi All,

Ive just been through the long process of converting my 1990 Mayfair from a 998 to a Metro 1275 Engine 12HA08AA.

I think I'm mostly there with the swap but there are a few teething problems which i do not have the knowledge to phase out.

Would anyone know if the 12HA08AA engine is Leaded? Ive seen that some of the Metro engines around this build time were leaded (I'm unsure of the exact age of this engine).

Ive transferred a large amount of the engine extras from the 998, but ive come to realize some of these may not be correct.

Ive purchased a Fletcher Pro Flow PHBSPD708M but im having difficulty fitting it to my carryover Maniflow LS001B 1.75" exhaust system, any ideas why the diamters of the pipes are not compatible and wont connect correctly? If i use the LCB on the new manifold the

Im intending of swapping the HS4 i had on the 998 to twin HS2's which i have rebuilt, im unsure however on the correct carb needle to use, any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, i was intending on running vac advanced although it doesnt have the vac nipple on the carbs, i have purchased 2 adapter plates to fit onto each carb, do i need to do this and bridge with a Y/T piece to the distributor or can i simply run the same thickness adapter plate blocked off and a single line to the dizzy?

The last issue i seem to have is the timing, ive got a 45D distributor on the engine currently, but in order to get the engine to run without stuttering at all, it needs to be set with a timing gun with vac pipe off at around 20-24 degrees off tdc, and when the vac pipe is connected on idle it looks to be rotated more towards 50 degrees on idle. Have i got the correct dizzy or do i need a new one. The system is ballasted i believe although i cant actually see a ballast resistor (Pink wire to pos on coil). The 45D dizzy in the engine right now is standard with points although im looking to change to electronic, just wanting to make sure i have the correct dizzy for the engine before i go any further.

Thank you to anyone who may be able to help with this!

You might need to change the 998 engine steady bar for the 1275 one if you have a HIF carb. Bulkhead clearance can be tight without the longer 1275 one.

I Purchased an adjustable top steady, i think i need to put a longet lower steady as well to twist the engine forward rather than skew, but it seems to work at the moment.

The current carb is a HS4 and intent to swap to twin HS2's shortly

carbs I would not bother a single HIF would work just as well if not better.

Dizzy could work but needs to be way less advance sounds like you need to have it recurved/fitted correctly.

re the exhaust try measuring the pipes as then you might see what the issue is.

maybe one is no longer the correct size.
