I have a gearbox that was used on my 998 . So now I'm using it on a austin american 1275
I have 2 questions

1. Will the gear box work .

2. 2nd to 3rd always grinded . Based on the pictures I see won gear worn out . Should I just replace the whole gear kit?

First point. What inner CVs does the car have? Then you have to consider the final drive ratio in the box compared to the original. They should be quite different.

you will also need a transfer case to suit the new box you may be lucky and they have the same idler gear shaft size. (Looks like they should be).

Ok the gearset. Seen worse but as you will have it all in bits any way I would have it looked at.

The wear on that gear, although not good, isn't the cause of your grinding - it is more likely the baulk ring(s) need replacing (and that's actually first gear you've highlighted).

The 'box needs a strip and overhaul prior to fitting.
