Hey guys, thought i'd post up whats been going on with rebuilding my 998 recently, Before anyone asks why you didnt just put a 1380 in as you would get more power etc.. I dident really want to go down the large bore route as most people already have super-duper large bores and i wanted to do somthing diffrent if you get my drift..

Anyway, This will be going in my '71Mini when its finished in the next couple of months (you can probley see it behind the photos) It will be used for fast road use and hopefully beating a few of my mates in there Corsa's :-.
Heres the spec so far, give or take a few changes along the way. Decided on keeping the 3.44FD as per Blick's advice

When we used the puller to get the flywheel of, I dident expect it to just jump out at a million miles an hour, Ive heard they sometimes come off really quick but dident expect it to be anything like that :shifty:

Doubt ill be using this again for the road mini, it was a real pain in the ar£se on our race mini, lift you foot up even slighty in a gear and it would just stool(even worse when you not running an alternator)!! good help what the paddle clutchs are like..

Gearbox was rebuilt back in '07 so its all generally sound in that department.

Got most of the parts on the list apart from one or two, Need to send the crank and rods of to rob walker for them to be lightend, Can anyone advise me on weather to get the block decked, or would the compression be through the roof with this and the 14cc?

Pete.

Brought it from CalverST, quality bit of kit, clicky >_<
Cheers Monkey, Found out about those wheels; they are 5Jx10 with a008's but they are slighty worn on both.

Not much of an update but more of a parts update!
Got the head today, really happy with it for the price I paid, as it would have cost 3x more if i had got S.R.E to do it :)
Bit of an overkill head for a road eng - but why not give it ago?

Heres to full spec -
MK3 1805 Cooper S Head
ex Ian Fraiser Se7en
37x31mm
Rimflow Valve's
Full Race Spec
14cc In Head
Sleeved Push Rods
Huge Ports
Bronze Guides
Steel Top Caps
Double Springs
30 degree Seats

Comp should be around 12:5:1

 I'd better get cracking with those pockets with my dremel ;)

Lighten'd MED Backplate

Also brought new gaskets for the engine, was going to get a comp head gasket untill i saw the price, think ill get my old man to pay for that!

Also brought a MED Race dizzy for 286+ with leccy pack fitted, which should be coming shortly to :(
Thats about it for now, should be getting the rods off tomorrow. havent had much updates as we're getting the electrics finished on the Mini first (which are a PITA!)

cheers.

Nice little side project :).

Know what you mean about going down the small bore route, thinking about doing the same. Getting big numbers out a big bore is easy, but getting the same numbers out a small bore is more a challenge, and its more rewarding to get an engine which barely makes 40bhp and get it producing close to 80 :D.

Guy in our club has a fully rebuilt 998 and is getting 87bhp! think its 1041 fully lightened and balenced bottom end, 12g940 head etc.

Paul.

Looking good so far bud. I'd pocket the block on the inlet port sides aswell. Would just free up a bit more space around the valve to let more mixture in. Don't think it should drop the CR ratio much at all.

If I got near that i'd be over the moon :) , about the same as a mildly modded 1275?

Already worried about pocketing the block myself so don't really want to do twice the work, The inlet valve is pretty close but I think it will be fine

Yeah I was going to get the machinest to do it while skimming the block.. But with that head and flat top pistons, I think it will high enough as it is :(. If I mess it up then that will teach me. Have been doing my homework on how to do it, but I doubt it will be perfect! :P
Fingers crossed!

cheers
