See what happened here.

Right, finally managed to get a little bit stuck in to taking the panels off today, despite some problems finding tools. Upto now the interior and front arches have been stripped and some lovely 12" steelies donned in place of the ultralights.

First off it took back the paintwork and *rubbish* with a wire brush so i could clearly see the welds. This took ages because i couldnt find the one i usually use (my dads) thats knotted and you put on an angle grinder, so i had to make do with a rubbish one stuck on the end of a drill. Needless to say it was *rubbish*, but i pressed on.

After taking off the headlight bowls, indicators and ariel, i felt ready to tackle the first wing. I borrowed my dads brand new spot weld drill bit to do this. I mustve been doing something wrong because of all the spot welds along the wing-inner wing, only 2 popped, the then bloody thing broke. So naturally, i thought 'screw this' and got out the angle grinder. Progress from that point on was much quicker and before long i had the wing removed.

I then was about to move on to the other wing until i realised why grinding had been getting so much harder to do.

Ill be getting some more discs and a wire disc tomorrow.
I also realised at this point i was hadnt eaten all day and was sodding hungry, so i packed up. But i decided to have a closer look at the inner wing; couple of pokes around and i find this little surprise...and this is the good wing.

So thats all for today, not much unfortunately. More to follow most likely saturday.

thanks mate your always welcome to come take a look. i did consider giving you ring with questions about the spot weld drill bit, but i decided to grind through the problems in the end. and learned my lesson to always wear safety glasses  ouch!

yeah i dont wear glasses till a bit hits methen rush off to find them!! but ring or text me if you ever need to mate - no problems advising :) spot weld drill bits are awkward at the best of times - i cant get on with them so used a stone grinder on mine!!

well looks like the wing and the front panel are next and then the frame needs to come out.

i'm tempted to attack the floor with a lump hammer and a block of wood to see what happens

could pop up tonight but think the bread knife is due home and she will prob not want me going out haha

no i clearly dont get in with them either. now i owe my dad one. very much looking forward to grinding away the other bits. only problem i have is its still on the road and im still paying tax for it (forgot to refund it last month) need to work out what im going to do with it.

no more harm can be done to the floor lol. so if you want to have a go with a BFH and a block of wood, dont let me stop you. there arent any obstacles inside to tackle and soon im going to take that awful rear ash tray out as well so i stop digging holes in my leg when im crawling around in there!

i might be going out tonight, not sure. depends if my mate can give me a lift or not. but if im still here and your allowed and want to visit, feel free.

cheers joe! errrm a very very ruff amount of time. couple years maybe ;) after the bodys repaired its going to be dipped to get rid of all the rust and then repaired again. then full respray, with brand new interior and freshly built engine to go in. so its going to take a while to a) do, b) get the funds, c) get insured on the end result. so im not worried if it takes ages.

Well done you for starting to repair Baby :)

will need to take the frame out before we run screaming at it with a BFH!!

not sure about the "on the road" problem.

but i appauld your plans of an acid dip rebuild - will take a while, id be too tempted to get it back on the road again - nothign to stop you having all the rust sorted if you poke about with a screwdriver haha

thanks for all the supportive comments :P

more work commencing tomorrow as planned. drivers wing and front panel to come off! and whatever else i can do.

by the way, whats the best way to remove that rear ashtray? i thought it was bolted on or something but it looks like its riveted. suppose i have to drill them out? or maybe ill just take the angle grinder to that section of the floor :)
