When you spend a Saturday evening stripping down a set of disc brakes, instead of doing what regular people consider to be fun.

Also got about 4 different types of grease on my hands and I couldn't find any hand cleaner :P

Swapping the engine out instead?

I can imagine... Plus there would be all the dirt and crap on the subframe. I'll stick to refurbishing simpler components for now :)

I know I don't need a cool steering wheel or a cool rocker cover for the mini and I know I can't really afford either right now, but I really, really want one :P

Thanks Graeme :) I'm still probably 100 pounds shy of that figure. I'll probably have check for one locally.

Just last week I felt the urge myself and forked out on a Momo model 88. Very, very nice :-)

Recently a couple of nice project minis have come up for sale... I wish I had a garage where I could store and build a project mini :\

-
Vinay-RS
I actually had a look last week. There are a few close by, but the rent is the same as an entire apartment!?

Are they in high demand there then? Here you can rent a garage for about £35 a month

Wow, even converting that to Rand it is still cheap. The ones I've seen here are about R2000 (~£110) for a 3m x 3m garage. It could be that there aren't that many self storage type places close by, so limited supply drives up the prices.

Didn't realise how much grease was inside the rod selector mechanism. Started stripping one down and wow, there was a lot of grease in there.

depends on what you're bending and how big

I took the part and traced it on paper and then used basic geometry to work out the angle and radius. Not sure if that is the best way to do it, but it worked.

At this point in time, I really dislike my mini :\ I have spent many hours trying to remove the flywheel housing to change the release bearing and I still can't get to the last two bolts...

-
MiniKermit
leave the one bolt out you cant get too, will make your life so much easier in future!

It's nice to have a quiet release bearing :) Thanks for the advice minikermit, followed it.

no worries, I must have a pile of those bolts I've left out of mini over the years! Helping future owners where I can hahaha

So you have to work on a Saturday -don't complain....
Viral Encephalitis 2010
YOU will understand the residual problems of that.

Wasn't complaining about the work, more about the underutilisation of the good weather.
I do hope there wasn't any permanent damage caused by the infection.

It's almost as if people forget how to drive when it starts to rain... :\

-
Vinay-RS
There was a person in tiny Daihatsu, who was driving at 30 km/h along a road with no one in front of them... and then they decided to brake when they approached a turn, it was so frustrating.

You sure they were not just being cautious or not good in the rain. going around a corner in the wet, I would probably brake.
Jul 21 2016 12:22 PM -
Vinay-RS
Perhaps. I suppose I should just accept it and go with the flow. Definitely would help.

Happiness is spending time trying to troubleshoot on the mini and successfully solving the problems :)

-
Vinay-RS
What were you trying to fix? Mine were really really small problems compared to many mini problems :P

Have an SPI turned out to be faulty lambda, coolant temp and inlet air temp didnt help matters... mix that up with a faulty injector

Wow, those are quite a few problems sitting over one another. Glad you were able to get them sorted.

Vinay-RS
I really shouldn't work on my mini... everytime I do, while some problems disappear, it seems like I'm creating new ones... Kudos to real mechanics, you guys are skilled.
