Crashed the mini, and will be a write off. Claim on insurance (i'm 18) and lose my years no claims, or get a loan to fix it and buy a cheap run around until fixed?

Don't claim on your insurance, because you're only 18 the premium next year will go through the roof

You do know that you gave to declare all accidents to your insurance whether you claim or not - right? If the car has been collected and taken to a yard I'm pretty sure it will be logged.

Nobody else was involved, happened late at night and got it taken away by a friend the next morning. Going with the loan if the bank will let me!

The TMF clown has struck again! :( I bought a Maniflow 1.75 single box pipe for a centre exit exhaust, mine is a side exit exhaust. I bought it at Stanford Hall, so no chance of exchanging, or getting a refund. :( GRRR!

Can you modify the part you've bought? Is the only difference that one has a bend at the end?

Yep. It's £23.99 inc VAT for the correct pipe from maniflow, so not really worth the hassle to be honest. The side exit pipe is also slightly longer. Even when you add the part to 'my basket', it only comes up with the part price. What a PITA!

Brand new JCW, you can have a valved exhaust. Valve closed means you have a silencer, valve open means no silencer

Is neoprene/epdm foam flammable? But thinking about it you don’t see many people in wetsuits spontaneously combusting.

it is generally flame retardant, probably melt first

so it might just be suitable for use under the bonnet, as I'm looking for something that won't end up acting like a giant sponge with condensation.

Does anyone insure their Minis when they are SORNed over the Winter? How much do you pay roughly?

That's why I want to keep it insured Pingu. But it's so expensive, hoping for something like £10.

Some policies won't award you NCB if you insure it not to move. Check the fine print.

your best bet is to call them up as miles will obviously lower, state what garage it's in, stirring lock kept on, wha lock is on the garage i.e. master lock number 10 and they might drop it down for you.

Anyone here own a Bini, around 2001-2004. What is the road tax for 6 and 12 months? :)

Great car to drive and easily upgraded to Cooper performance with a bluefin.
    http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/

Check the Rover gearbox on pre-2004 models for bearing noise, check everything electrical works and don't worry if the power steering whines. PS pumps can fail but are an easy diy job but allow £200 for a recon pump if it does.

I think the 'death rattle' problems were only on the later Mk2 Cooper S introduced in 2007?

I couldn't quite hold back the tears this morning when a close, terminally ill, friend asked if he could have a last drive of my mini whilst he's still able to. Haven't seen him smile like that in so long.
