So I have been trying to clean up my 4 pot calipers that I got from ShiftySeamus:

But been having a bit of a problem getting all of the old paint off, been using a wired wheel on a drill, but the paint is on real good, so does anyone have any better ideas of how to get it off, like something I can pour over them to loosen it off?

Also, I think its the bleed nipple, has snapped off:

So does anyone have any ideas of how to et that out, witout causing much damage to the caliper?

Right, so I got bored, so decided to go out and have another go at cleaning the calipers, what a bad idea that was. I thought taking the bleed and grease nipples off would make cleaning easier, but two of them decided to shear off >_< , so know I have three broken nipples in my calipers  . But just at the nick of time before I was going to throw them across the garage, the guru that is my Dad came in and said some left handed taps would get them out nicely. So with my Dad having a day off tomorrow, I think he will be going down town to get me some :D , then I just need to get six new nipples to put in them. Any idea where I could get some from? I'm not sure what thread they are.

Was going to suggest a tap for getting the nipples out, can you use paint thinner in moderation to finish stripping down the calipers?

i may get told off for all i know for sugesting this, but could you not drill out the sheared nipples (guilty laugh) and 're-thread' them?

Ergh...not drilling a tapping, that seems to be the answer for everything these days, just like the rolling road.

Well I might be able to mod them more to make them sit lower, the only thing is I don't want subframs that are a bit flimbsy like yours, or soething that they are to high and go through the head lining, like yours lol.

Well if you think you can modify them then why dont you buy the proper ones and put a brace bar in to strengthen them. That would be far easier than modifying the heavy standard ones. That would mean they are low and strong which is what you want. Your seats wont hit the headlining because they are only small. Mine hit the roof because they are quite high backed.

Yer might do that. depends on financial status.

Depends when it is for me.

Not really been able to do much today, my neighbour said he would give me a few quid if I changed the brakes on his car, so I said yes. Got the pads to do it, but he didn't had the wheel nut wrench thing that comes with your car, so got a 17mm socket with and extension on it and this crappy wrench, and still couldn't do it. So got my big bar out, got that on it, and pulling it as hard as I can, then SNAP goes the socket wrench, and BANG goes the bar into my head. So spent a nice hour down tthe local A&E getting my gash in my head sorted out.

Always next weekend.

Might get a bit more done on the brakes tomorrow, been as my head is a lot better now. I want to split each one so I can refurb each one as they seem to have not been very well looked after, just painted over a lot :( , so out with the wire wheel. Will post pictures of my progress with them tomorrow.
