Yeh, but expensive on drive shafts and gearboxes :saywhat: with big arms to counter act the torque steer  cant wait

have you considered power steering? i know someone on here developed a system which was supposed to help with torque steer. might be worth a look.

Decided to ditch the turbo because of reliability issues :-

Anybody want an IhI RHB5 turbo, brand new.

Thats a real shame. I was looking forward to the build up, and how it worked when finished.

Is there definately no way of adding the turbo?

howq much for the turbo, and how difficult to fit to the mini. i.e would it need custom manifold?

I dunno, I bought it because it was new and very cheep. A custom manifold would be required. It may be a bit big for the five port head though, I was looking at 120 normaly aspirated on the twin cam and with the turbo around 150, 160+, hence reliability issues on the bottom end. May be way off the mark with figures but who can estimate anything on a conversion like this. The turbo is suitable for 70-200BHP, though I would guess that there would be a lot of lag in the low end of its power range.

Though, may keep the turbo, get the engine in the car normaly aspirated, make it workable, iron out the problematic issues unforseen, then pull it all apart, skim the pistons and then turbo it. Might be able to get hold of a steel crank by then. who knows :-

Here's a drawing if any one wants to try and mate an IHI RHB5 to a five port head.

After seeing thisfrom a fellow BMWK1 16valver, decided to keep the turbo and spend a little more money on the gearbox. Cooper twin point injection block now waiting to be plugged and decked as it has been for the last 3 months, just not had the time or money for that matter at the minute, but it will get finished, oh yes it will

Thing is its now close to christmas and the whole project is being mothballed until spring next year.
