The definitive answer to anyone in a mini beating a significantly faster car....

1 he wasnt trying.
or
2 it wasnt the car you thought it was.

A mini will easilly beat a scooby, a porsche, Veyron etc etc, purely because the other car isnt trying to race. Drivers of these cars know what they are capable of and are either just tooling along normaly and dont realise you are racing them, or are just taking the *yellow human water*.
A relation of mine has done very well for himself financially and bought an Audi R8. His slight regret is that by having such an obviously fast car, EVERYONE wants to race. Not a day goes by without kids in minis/novas/saxos, reps in vectras, guys in scoobys, taxi drivers in 407`s etc etc want to race him. He knows for a fact that he could soundly thrash all of them without trying (apart from the rare chance of encountering a subtle but highly modified scooy/evo etc) so he just lets them peel off ahead. Without a doubt they are down the pub/on a forum later saying "I totally smoked an R8 this afternoon".

Or, it wasnt a scooby turbo. Its perfectly feasable that it could have been a 1.6 non turbo with WRX kit. These are relatively slow and Im sure that a decent mini might be able to give one a run for its money.

The reality is that minis - even modified 1380s - are not that fast in the grand scheme of things. The sooner you learn that and enjoy it for what it is, the safer you will be on the roads.

I used to have a mildyly tweaked mini turbo, which was pretty fast in mini terms. Fairly often, I would be driving along going pretty hard when some rep/grandad in a mediocre saloon car would breeze past without even trying, usually not even realising how hard I was pushing my mini. Humiliating, but a good reminder abut my minis place in the performance ladder.
I drive a vectra SRi V6 now. Its a pretty fast car, high power and lots of torque....I would have to think very carefull before making any claims about its speed though, there are plenty of modern turbodiesel family hatch/saloons that will leave it standing, so frankly, its just not worth trying. I avoid racing, so I avoid getting beat and looking like a fool, and I also avoid having an accident by acting like a nob.

I will admit to havin a cheeky blast about a month ago...not quite as drastic, Smart car 0.6 Turbo!
Winner!!
Along a straight dual carriageway and didn't even hit 70 by the time i got to the other end!
I dont see any problem with that!
Then after pulled over and had a chat to the lad in the smart about my car!

Mini's are very light compared to many modern cars so there is potential there, but you're going to need some serious tuning or a complete engine transplant. It's not big or clever, but it wouldn't be hard to put a Mini together to give that R8 at caning on the Mini's own territory.

Ok bets on now........I say this is a five pager?

1380davis - You cant post something like that and not expect replies like already, your car may be quick but leave that to the strip with timed slips otherwise it tends to get drawn into the pub ammo etc etc

I beat this, I kept up with that dont do you any favors on here. Most people like to play on the road but wouldnt blurt it out here and start getting defensive with replies. If it happened fair play, dont expect people to start falling at your feet just because they were'nt there.

Just a heads up

Did it? looked pretty close to me!
after all, i believe what the guy said in his first post was that he was keeping up with it, didn't say anything about beating it, and if you ask me, id say in the video that the mini kept up pretty well,
Again, you can look up videos all day, the guy was tryin to have a laugh.
You gotta hold on to the little victories!

EDIT: You gotta hold on to the MINI victories ;D !!!!

My mistake! Apologies.
Although, might not have been a WRX, I've seen 1.2 clio's with V6SPORT stickers on them!
Sounds like a long shot but could have been maybe a 1.6 Impreza that's been tarted up?
Imprezas are heavy cars!

well all i can say is that if you put an STI or WRX impreza and a mini whatever with an a-series engine on a race track, the mini's going to be sh#t on.
