Shooting for pest control I think is actually fair enough and like juju said, for food. I don't like it but it has to be done and as far as pest control goes I suppose it's the most humane method. Just please make sure you are a good shot before you go out and shoot live animals!
We used to have a bb gun and would shoot targets in the garden(tin cans mainly!) it is awesome but as far as shooting an animal, I couldn't do it I think I would be sick. Just do not see the attraction in ending a life.

Whenever I went out for a shoot, it would be this sort of time..

Mixitois (sp) would be very wild right now, its basically a rabbit verstion of Manflu!
Confuses the hell out of rabbits, was introduced to be a "hymain" posion, unfortunatly, its now a diesese >_<

More rabbits die from mixy, than being hunted or road kill.

Oh, and I also agree with being a good shot, personally, i don;t think ANYONE should go out hunting without knowing they can happily and confidently put 5 or pellets within a 2p sized area (smaller the better though) at at least 25yards!! personally...

I could shoot, pellet hole, on pellet hole at 25yards, so I was a good shot >_<

yeh thats what I mean, hate the idea of kids going out into the countryside with zero experience taking random pot shots at anything that moves! Not saying that's what anyone in this topic does but just in general because it does happen.
oh and while we're on the topic of rabbits I saw a wild black rabbit on the weekend, it was so pretty!! so please unless it's a deranged miximatosis ridden one can everyone not shoot the black ones, they are too nice! >_<

Ok I wont shoot the black ones!!

As alot of people have said this time of year is busy for shooting, pigeons are about, rabbits with miximitosis are about and it's the season for alot of game as well!

On the topic of miximitosis did you know there is a cure for it????

Nah someone was telling me about it today

Personally I would shoot it and put it out of it's misery

But someone found an oil you can give them that cures it within a few days and they are also vaccinated from it!

Anyone ever been rat shooting?? Most fun you will ever have, especially with a 7 shot pump action shot gun

More than likely but i bet it dosnt work aswell as the disease did (in the way its transfered from one to another)

and white/black/other fancy colours, are usualy a mix of wild and household rabbits from what i can remeber anyways.

Well any of you that know colchester will know there was a huge out break of miximitosis down Avenue of Rememberance, i.e hundreds of rabbits had it. The few months ago a couple of people I knew went up there and literally took about half of them back and gave them all this 'magic medicine' and it has worked, as there now no rabbits with disease down this road, unfortunately the ones they didn't take back have died but all others a living and well! So it must work >_<

There are a few black ones hopping about out near Bodenham. To be honest they stand out so much they might all have been eaten by now! think they are descendants of an escaped pet rabbit.

I know they are pests but I like them! god i think if it was left up to me the world would be overrun with rats and rabbits.

Rabbits, crows, grey squirrels (not reds they have a right to be here in britain!)

all valid targets for pest control on our farm - i use the following:

old inherited 12 bore side by side - cheap spanish make.

mossberg 12 bore pump action - uses 3inch magnum cartridges

old bolt action .410 webley & scott shotgun - yes bolt action shotgun.

and my most useful tool:

Posted Image

ruger 10/22 polymer stock, silencer and various internal upgrades.

gives me virtually silent operation which minimises stock disturbance and saves my hearing!

Just been looking at rifles and I'd quite like one actually

Maybe one of these: http://www.marlinfirearms.com/

I'm hopefully going up to spain next summer to meet a friend who has a shooting school out there :)
