I've got an Astra 2litre Diesel...

Standard it would do about 55-60mpg with 100bhp, but now its been fettled with, I am getting 80mpg, and 130bhp ;)

a good size tank too of around 50litres.

306s are great, had one before i gave it to my sister, as i was doing a silly amount of miles a day.

Did 250 miles a day for 3 months in it, without a single problem. Getting about 39mpg.

That was the 90bhp 1.6

As long as your are not totally heavy right footed id go for the 1.6 petrol, the diesels do more, but its not worth paying the premium for the car, bearing in mind the difference in cost of diesel and petrol, the gains are minimal.

They do a 60, 80 and 100hp models. But at 89 years old i wouldnt worry about the cost of insurance too much ;) must look pretty good for your age too to be a model :(

what i wanted in a car has changed. Now I don't care about how fast it goes, as long as I feel safe! Although mpg is fairly important!
