To be fair mate, how many young lads that drive fiestas and corsas , don't drive like *melons* in town??? Big bore exhausts and loud stereos, trying to wheels spin away from the lights.

I'm 32 and I'll not try and tell you i didn't do something similar when I was younger, although I didn't pass my test until i was 21 and living in Cyprus only I went and bought a starlet turbo :) so I was possibly doing it a little faster than most. I'm just glad i never hurt or killed someone with all my showing off. I did have several run ins with the police though, but only ever got done for speeding once over there. My penalty was 3 days in prison or a £15 fine. They can't issue points on your uk licence over there. Not sure if that'll change soon, with all this Europe *man danglies* though :D

in fairness, if he was someone they were after they would have known from the number plate etc, they dont just pull people over randomly in a vien attempt to catch ramdomers!!!

lol

you gotta be joking! haven't you ever watched Police, Camera, Action! or that speeders show (can't recall the name of it now;) where they drive around in the Scooby and pull people because of their "gut feeling". even when they get it wrong, the majority of the time, they still try to justify pulling some bloke (or woman) and keeping them at the road side for ages.

I never understand why the guys volunteer(?) to go on TV, they come across as complete jerk-offs.

i broke down on a roundabout and two police men got out and looked really angry when they came to my window they soon realised that i waas female and asked if i need to be pushed to safety, i was really happy as the police in my area are usually right arses.
they even ask questions about the car which i thought was quite sweet

anywho moved home got pulled by a cop in a defender told me i was corning with excessive speed (28mph) apparently too fast for a fiesta with semi slick tyres and coilovers set up for the track

First police officer ive heard of using a Defender!! :P

As for the Semi slick tyres and coilovers 'set up for track use' does it make a difference?? Their not going to care if your car is set up for track use or not, just that your driving safely and not putting other road users at risk.
If the road was wet or greasy or had excessive camber then you may have been approaching the corner a little fast. So the officer might have thought 'ooh err' and spoken to you for that reason.

so i personally would like to say the police i have met are great with the exception of the young guy who gave me the section 59 i think people should lay off the police as on more than one occasion they've helped me out (break downs, theft of audio and mini)

Well said. They are supposed to help as much as possible, most of them will.

I was pulled over about a year or so back as my rear lights wernt working properly (loose connection). The police pulled out behind me and flashed me. I carried on for about half a mile or so and pulled over in a safe place.
As soon as I pulled over and got out the car the guy in the passenger seat was out with a shot shouting 'Do you know its an offense to fail to stop when instructed to pull over!' I replied with
"No, im fully aware of that. I'm also fully aware that when you are asked to pull over you must find a safe place that doesnt put you, the officers, or other users of the road in danger. I know this road like the back of my hand, and i KNEW there was no where to pull over until here. Or would you prefer I put my life aswell as yours at risk by stopping in the middle of the road at 2am?" The other officer heard my reply and before the stroppy passenger could fight back he jumped in with "No, you did the right thing".
The passenger was hoping to god that there were faults with my car. He did all the usual, MOT, Insurance etc then checked all the tyres excessively, then went round smelling near the fuel tank, running his hand along the sump etc to see if i was dropping any liquid!

That guy is the only officer who has ever jumped down my throat. I'll happily admit I've been pulled over a few times, (More so after a night out and they've seen a car full of young lads. Its steroetypical but then there is a chance that some youthful lads after a night out will be driving home over the limit) and all the officers I've met have been fine. And when in the mini, they always ask a few questions whilst waiting for details to come through over the radio.

on the point of the cars set up i was mainly saying the car was safe at the speed i was going round the corner 28mph in the dry and the road is always quiet as i live 2 secs away from where he pulled me if i had been gunning it he would never have caught me before i made it to the house as near me its a maze lol but i dont drive like its a track i have 2 mind sets and the last time i was on the track was a twin engined go kart was great really want to finish my mini the get it on the track

Me neither, unfortunately its often the jerk-offs that volunteer to go on TV. Us normal coppers turn the opportunity down because we'd rather not have press following us around misreporting stuff.

We don't pull over cars purely by random, the "gut feeling" is usually based on condition of the car, age and appearance of the driver, manner of driving.
The right combination of the above can make us think "something's not quite right", so we pull the car over. We do not need a reason other than to check ownership, insurance etc, and as I've said before that's how we catch criminals and prevent accidents.
If we get wrong then most of us apologise and thank them for their time. If we've pulled a car over on hunch it can sometimes be better not to mention why, rather than explain fully and cause offence.

On a personal note, I've been pulled over several times, once for speeding on the motorway and I got 3 points, and once by a copper with an attitude and when he asked for ID I took great pleasure in wiping the sarky smile off his face. Mostly I've been pulled over riding my R1, and they were just doing their job.
