The trick is to drive as safe as possible.

What good is driving safely when there's other people driving around you?

You could be the perfect driver, doesn't stop somebody else driving into you!

Always treat everyone else on the road as an idiot!! (That was my father's advice!!)

A Mini with a 'Multipoint' cage, bucket seats and harnesses fitted with the correct cage padding, will kill you because you drive on the road? But not when you are driving at 90mph though a forrest on gravel in close proximity to trees, many of which can be imovable?

what im talking about is people that fit a rollcage to completely standard minis if you get me, and ONLY use them on the road, in the sense that they think the rollcage is making them safe.
and lol at the "craig you batty" comment >_<

He is, its ok I tell him all the time >_<

But yes, a rollcage can be dangerous if you don't have buckets and correctly fitting harnesses.

In my accident in October the enginge came into my footwell. Missed my legs by inches. I'm very very lucky as I should be dead or I could have lost my legs.

yeah and you're a short arse. ive got quite long legs, so would be looking at a wheelchair if i was lucky methinks.

You Tube clip below on the early Mini taken from a 1999 CH4 Documentary on Car Safety. It mentions footwell injuries, shows why the Mk1/2 door latch/locks were changed for safety reasons on the Mk3 onwards and the front seat tilt catches added..............petrol tank filler neck seemed to stay the same though?

You have to ask yourself, why did they not fit roll cages as standard? Why are no road cars, with the exception of things like the 911 GT3, fitted with roll cages? Off the road and on the track, you are pushing your car to the limit. On the road you shouldn't really be pushing it to the limit. Rover fitted side impact bars to the MPi because side impacts are common on the roads, they didn't fit roll cages due to space, cost, practicality and most of all because it's just not needed on a road car.

Have a look on BriSkoda forums for the pics of the guy with his nut-sack ripped open and his spuds dangling in the breeze to highlight the dangers of improperly used harnesses.

I'll just take your word for it, if thats okay

Rollcages are fine if you meet this criteria;

A full rollcage being a minimum of 6 point
A proper fia fixed bucket seat
Proper 3" 4 point harnesses minimum
Padding EVERYWHERE on the cage where you and your passenger are seated

My old minis rollcage was welded into the chassis as i'm sure davids is (mini93) this makes for a safe cockpit, you will not frigging die.

show cages or proper rollcages that are just bolted in, is asking to kill you.

It wont kill you at 90mph in a forrest on gravle with tree's because, you are wearing all the protection gear, with a proper race seat with braces at the side by your head, and a full 6 point race harness, which stops your moving arround.

The cage protects you from the initial impact/s
The cage padding and helmet protects you from the cage.

In my opinion, a roll cage is just that, a ROLLcage. It protects you incase of a roll over!!

its only of any extra use if you have the full cage, with side impact bars.

all of this will protect you in a crash from the impacts. but you have to remember what is protecting you when you hit the cage!!!

IF i ever got a cage, i would wear a helmet while driving the car, and have all the padding in nesercery places.

You would wear a helmet in a road going car?

If you didnt have a cage, and you rolled the car....are you not just as likely to hit your head on something else?
