I managed to put a blow-through supercharger system with intercooler in a roundnose mini. And I can change my plugs without removing the supercharger :)
It wasn't an easy installation, but it works fabulous!

Remko, thanks for the post and the link, my dutch isn't too good but the pictures speak a thousand words! Do you have any other pictures of the charger outlet manifold and the route you have taken from charger -> intercooler -> carb as it's a little difficult to make out in the pictures.

That's why the other article is in german :)
Miniscene is a german magazine, Auto & Tuning is a dutch magazine

it's a little difficult to make out in the pictures.

That's because it's a tight fit everywhere....

It's not possible to take better pictures with the supercharger in place, because the manifold is mostly behind the charger and the alternator. I'll try to explain how I did it:

I created a bracket / outlet pipe welded to the old alternator bracket. The supercharger is as high as possible. I just can change the spark plugs. You need a flipfront, because you have to remove the streel strip that contains the bonnetlock, otherwise the supercharger simply doesn't fit. At the waterpump I made a new bracket that supports the supercharger and also makes it possible to lower the alternator and makes it possible to adjust the pulley outlining. To lower the alternator I moved the oil filter with custom brackets and hydraulic hoses to above the clutch housing. The outlet of the supercharges points 45 degreed down, the pipe goes straight down. At the bottom I have a custom intercooler (original alfa diesel) and the outlet of the intercooler goes besides the radiator en into the original turbo hiff44. I use a forge blow off valve.

Hopefully this makes sense to you. If not; let me know and i'll try to explain better...

Kind regards,
Remko

blow through useing turbo carb withm odified plenum and bmw supercharger

Have you got any more pictures of how this has been done? looks interesting.....I can see a new project coming on!

You must be able to get some pre-formed tube bends etc to make it look neat. Do you get anymore lag with the tubes being longer?

The other good point is that you wouldnt need to modify the charger internals to take the fuel/air mix, it seems Vmax & johnspeed charge over £100 to do this.

Hiya remko nice looking van. i worked out way i was going to do mine but found there to be a problem with bost pressure on the over run i used the valve off the bmw mini s to compensate a dump valve on its own wasnt enough good sound though but just kept reving. did you have a similar problem and if so how did you get round it.

I don't think the length of the tubes matter, because the charges is continuous spinning. You only have to wait for the dump valve to close, that valve is very close to the carburettor.

Hiya remko nice looking van.

thanks!

I don't know what kind of dump valve you did use. Mine is a forge with a spring in it. The biggest issue is to get the right tension in the valve. You can change the springs and work with shims to setup the correct tension. The dump valve should open when there's a vaccuum in your inlet manifold. When the spring is too strong, the valve doesn't open and your rmp will rise very quick. If the spring is too soft, the valve will not close and you lose air and so you lose power. I found it not very easy to setup, it has to work perfect.

Like I said before it's not easy to make good pictures, because everything is so close to eachother....

Remko

sorry for this noob soundin question but people are saying you cant put a cooler on a suck thro. But cant you get the pipe from the air filter at the nose of the car through a cooler to the carb to the super to the block

i.e

Air Filter >> intercooler >> Carb >> S/C >> manifold >> Block >> Wheels >> underpants

when you compress air it heats up, thats what your cooling by putting an intercooler between the charger and engine

Yes it's the heated compressed air you need to cool. Putting the intercooler after the air filter will do nothing.

Thank you! Now i know what is going on tehe !!!

i dont know wether to have suck or blow suck seems easer and less fiddly. but blow is more power and looks nicer !!

This dump valve lark is it really that hard to setup.

Mr Stig where did you get the photo of the blow through system on the 1st page of the thread?

has nothing to do with fuel/air mix, they dont modify the internals , they have to machine the casing slighty as the inlet sits partly over the casting due to being in a differant place

there is a differant kit that does not need this doing as there manifold is slighty diiferant hence no supercharger mods

the suck through kits dont really run that much heat due the the fuel/air mixture being sucked through the carb coursing the temp of the inlet charge to drop a lot inlet pipe can get very cold to the point of icing on out side of the pipe

so the temp of the fuel air going in is so much much colder than the ambant air temp that by the time has been compressed is not that hot

can put your hand on the supercharger when running and is only warm to the touch did think about putting a air temp sender in the manifold of last suck through but never got round to it

but as one i am doing now is blow through fitting inter cooler

Only because is a nice setup and wanted to try and look at it more in detail.
