Goopster,

I always attempt to drill out the spot welds first, then I use either an angle grinder or a dremel if I can't get the grinder in. A file is always on hand as well for the awkwards little corners.

Somethings I'll cut a hole in another panel thats to be replaced just to gain access but you need to carefully work out the order that you'll put it back together so that you can get the welder or grinder in

Thanks Ratty, that's a big help. The quality of your work is superb. I'll definately be following your advice and watching this thread with great interest. Top job, keep it up!

Steering wheel pic as promised

Posted Image

N/S/R wheel arch nearly ready to remove and boot floor repair tacked into place, the new panel was a nightmare hence the burn marks on it as I had to heat it up and reshape it

Someone has to be crazy enough to save them >_<

Thank god for insanity. Yet another great project. Thanks for all the pictures. Used to drive around Chippm a lot when I lived in Bath and later Swindon. Love the countryside and always felt close to our great engineering ancestor IK Brunel (well, he did the big locos, we do the li'l cars). Keep up the good work.

Looking good Ratty. Are you keeping it the same colour for originality or changing it? And what the deal with those rear discs? They must have cost a fair bit and it's only an 850!

Dave.

Wow, You work fast!
This is great stuff, you have some skills too! Great work and welding.
Makes me a little braver about mine when I see the holes and rot and orrible bits on yours and how it's all coming together.
those brakes look wicked too :teehee:
There is more reason to use them with an 850 up front dsgoody, all about power to weight rather than braking force. :gimme:
And the fact that they look very trick indeed.
Keep it up, I'll be following.

I'm totally not jealous of a mk1 either...

As said its all about reducing weight. I can't remove any from the body or interior as it must remain original in the looks department, but that doesn't stop me from making sure all the mechanical bits go on a diet
