Engine plans may have to change due to stumbling upon a 998 Cooper engine (yet to be confirmed but hopeful)

Sill strengthener and arch closing plate fitted

Posted Image

Hi - do you have a part number for these sill strengthers and closing plates? I was unable to spot them on Somerford when putting mine together?

If you can point me in the direction thatd be great!

Awesome progress by the way - its taken me 2 years to do what you've done in a couple of weeks!

Stunning work, as always Ratty. I wish I could butt weld as well as you. Whenever I try, I just seem to blow holes and widen gaps LOL. What am I doing wrong? I find it easier to overlap plates or panels very slightly, but as a result, its nowhere near as neat as what you are doing.

This car is going to be stunning. And the speed at which you work is something else!

All the best, Goopster

Ensure the gap in the panels is no more than 1mm, the metal edges need to be clean but don't grind them too thin when doing this. Find a setting on your welder that allows for quick pulse welding by practicing on scrap metal first. I also find a heat sink held at the back of the weld helps if the gap between the panels is too large

Thanks Ratty, much appreciated. I'll have a practice on some scrap then give it a try on the next area I tackle (probably my door posts)

All the best, Mark
