The redtop is the 16v xe version of the 2.0 vauxhall. The 8v is just normally known as the 8v.

Meant to put that in the pm but forgot about it

ROFL - exactly, plenty of other stuff to worry about first

things to bear in mind - redtops are heavy engines (vtecs slightly less) but make more torque than their equivalent vtecs.

alos i notice that some people have said that the 16. 16v gm engine has to go on Tb's - not true. allspeed with reverse the inlet manifold to allow it to fir, thefore keep the stock ecu etc. bear in mind you may well need to move the brake/clutch cylinders inside the car.

also, you have to be very clever to fit a redtop under a standard length roundnose

can you fabricate/weld. if so you'll be fine. if not, i'd learn asap.

and if you go with the watsons set up, be aware that is a metro frame so you loose the mini handling.

ps i have a redtop on TB's so have some knowledge of these things

LOL, cause it that simple......no reverse or hearing as you have to rev its tits off to move......

Maph - havent you built one of these minis? How much did it cost? Just wondering as you could give him an idea of cost, IF you fabricate your own parts?

I did notice that OP is only 15 also, so whilst considering your engine conversion have you also considered how you propose to insure a 2.0l??

"But in the end - even a 190BHP Mini isn't the fastest thing in the world and still can't eat Porsches for breakfast (but at least giving them a hard time )..."

erm, have you been in a hybrid mini....off the line....M3's get seen off easily. 190 bhp in a 600kg car plus superior handling will give bloody nose to beetles and other more "powerful" machinery. depends what track you are on
