i can happily cruise at 70 all day, but i agree with most people the noise is stupid, especially if your getting exhaust filter etc... seems a little quiter at 80 for some reason, dosnt drone on as much dont ask me why, just turn ur sterio up and the engine noise goies away lol :dontgetit:

You can tell how loud it's getting by the amount you have to increase the radio volume to hear anything, then when you come to a stop the radio's blowing your eardrums out!!!!

I drive my MPI about 70 miles on the motorway each way a couple of times a week and....how do I put this on a public forum....erm......think the speed limit is a bit low....by about 10-15mph in my opinion (I OF COURSE stick to the limit though at all times because it would be dangerous and irresponsible to speed and I wouldnt ever encourage it because its not fun at all and it is definatly not smart, not big and not clever.

In all serious 70 for an MPI will probably going at around....3300rpm at a guess. Not a problem. Mines done a few thousand miles this year at these speeds down the M1. I do however think pick up in 4th is dangerously slow and you should be aware of that.

MK1

p.s. have to agree, the louder you go the quieter it is. Got mine reading 110 on the clock the other day (down my drive not on public roads) was still accelerating when I backed off and it was literally silent lol. Thought I'd broken it!

Mate, MPI = Multi Point Injection in case you wernt sure.

SPI is single point

Carbs are carbs. (a mans engine)

have a look at this video, the all the mini's in this video are 998cc a-series with the exception of the R1, the one with blue bits.

the one with red stickers is my mates, and it is very fast...has a kent cam but not sure what one. still runs a standard head and 1 3/4 hif44 carb, but it will hit 80 in 3rd!!

It was certainly loud when I ran it for a while without the CAT!!!

Didn't realise till I stood behind it one day when it was on the Rollers, bloody hell, got the CAT back on quick!!!

I'd like mine to be a bit better on the motorway, changed it from a 998 to a 1275 from a metro with a recon 'box, so i'm unsure what ratio it's running and the speedo is way out, but at motorway speeds, it revs quite high.

What does an MPI for instance sit at at say 70mph?

Standard 4 speed should be running around 3,750rpm at 70mph?

see my (sorry, I mean Dr. Guessworks) chart in previous post

Rover manual quotes 17.8 mph / 1000 rpm in 4th (that might be 12" wheels though???)

My standard 1999 cooper mpi sportspack with 13's cruises at just a shade under 3000 revs at 70, if you can't handle that then IMO don't buy a mini :dontgetit:)

My mini will sit at 70 nicely - it's a 998, on 10" wheels with a 3.44 diff, bob on 4000 revs :dontgetit:

My 1098 cruises at 55mph quite nicely, but at 70mph it seems a bit tortured.
