It might be their decision on the risk but its for the government to decide on the law and I'm sure they have their reasons for doing it - what those reasons are are completly IRRELEVENT. Unfortunatly the law does not state that Minis are exempt from speed limites because they look/sound quite good when they are doing 95 down the road, nor do they exempt them from having illigal number plates because they look good.

Its the law. Just because you disagree with it or perhaps don't understand their reasons for enforcing it does not make it wrong or indeed any less illigal.

I'll just quote myself in order to eliminate me from the direction of your rant:

No it isn't difficult, it's not a matter of difficulty, more that people like to personalise their Mini and if they want to change the plate for an illegal one then that's upto them and it's the risk they (and me) take. IMO a black & silver plate when the registration letter is on the right hand side looks "right", so thats what I have & am prepared to face the consequences if I'm unlucky enough for some jobsworth copper to pull me for it.

(P.s. I wish my Mini could do 95  )

lol ok well I sort of understand what your saying. At the end of the day I just think its a bit mental to have something wrong with your car deliberatly and know you could have some fairly serious consequences.

I would have literally NO idea if my Cooper will do 95. But 4500 ish revs in 4th is a bit fast - of course it would be very hypocritical of me to be saying people are silly for driving with a black and white number plate if I ever drove at 95 because the consequences of that would be worse I'm sure..THANK GOD I don't ever speed. :)

It's a number plate for gods sake. Not your paint job, or random bit of chrome tat that you apply to "make your mini unique..."
Saying "It looks better with black ones one" is irrelevant. I think they look better without one, but I don't drive around without it do I. If they are the wrong plates for the car, then they are wrong. Next you'll be saying you want "vintage 60's tax disc's" to coplete your retro look..........

Utter tosh

It's not irrelevant, it's the deciding factor on what plates I put on my mini... ;)

Yeah I've always wanted a 60's tax disc on my 80's mini... :( :- :- :- :( :) FAIL.

The risk your going to be putting yourself at for some AMAZING number plates with a rude slogan or something on it is really not worth it is it?

That's for the driver to decide, and blatently a lot of people disagree with you.

Not quite sure what your little rant is all about there. But I'll type slowly so you can understand....
By law, your required to have the correct colour plates for the correct year of car. End of. If you don't like it, take it up with the law :)
I was being ironic with the comparrison to tax discs. You appear to agree that black plates are "acceptable" on the wrong year of car, I was suggesting that you are incorrect, and comparing it to have a non-legal tax disc in place also, both of which I'm sure your local traffic police will shaft you for.
It is not for the driver to decide, it never has been. You don't own the right to drive on the road. Your licenced too, but should you invoke the conditions, then you will lose your licence...admittedly for minor offences, but lose it never the less.
I'll let you digest that, then when your mother lets you back on her computer, I have no doubt you will have some form of witty retort for me. ;)

And Chris is saying he's willing to take the risk, as he's had to say numerous times... no need for the extra bits you've added... don't really help your message me thinks ;)|

Like Ryan said ^^ :) let me type slowly so you understand where I'm coming from

Yes I think black & silver plates look "right" on cars where the registration letter is on the right hand side. I never said they were legally acceptable, therefore I'm not incorrect because I'm stating my opinion on the appearance of said plates not the legality of them :dozing:

It is for the driver to decide how he or she treats their car, and it's for them to decide whether they keep it in a roadworthy state, and it's for them to decide whether they replace the plates with illegal ones. They'll get done if they break the law, but the decision to break the law lies with the driver. I do have the right to drive on the road because I have a license, MOT, insurance and Road Tax :dozing:

Somehow I don't think I will lose my license for using black and silver plates. Obviously when I got pulled for an unrelated issue the officer didn't think so either.

Like I said, it's upto me whether I display the correct plates or not, and, like I said (read this carefully) I'm more than willing to accept any penalty I get for breaking the law.

Thanks for your concern but being that my mother and her own computer are at my mothers house and not my house, your last comments are a bit irrelevant ;)

Now now, no need to get so childish over an exchange of personal opinions, is there.
