Woah long time.. I've been so busy at Uni >_< came home last night as it's my Mums birthday today but I've managed to get a good 4-5 hours in the garage.

& apologies for the photo quality.. didn't bring my camera home.

W&P arches, scroll up to see how they will look :dontgetit:

Bit more of the floor chopped out.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Marking up and taking my time over cutting the floor down to size.

Posted Image

And clamped in place! needs a bit more fettling but I'm happy with that.

Only took me about 4 hours :( but I was taking my time and the good method of measuring twice and cutting once.

Gaps are looking acceptable.

So next step is welding it in place.. hopefully I'll have the aid of Camp Freddy :P

Unsure when I'm next home.. depends completely on my work load at Uni, it's been heavy lately

don't want to put a downer on it , but, you'll have a job welding with a gap like that on body panels , you'll
keep blowing through, unless you've got a heat sink of some description , best to try an off cut first..

It needs to be smaller than that?! I can do so.. got enough play in it, I think..

I thought it needed to be that sort of size to allow the weld to drop into it.

you could butt it together touching and it will penetrate, you only need a gap like
that on 2-3mm+ , best to do a test piece...

I've got the rest of that floor left so I can do a test piece, cheers for the heads up!

I will be home next weekend, hopefully to get a day in on her. Although on the Sunday I'm going to some stages rally with my Dad and little brother :D

Coming back to University has made me realise this won't be done for Easter, let alone next Christmas.. at the rate it's going. I've got a plan B, which is very much under wraps and under discussion. I'll update you fully either next weekend or a few weeks time, once things have fallen into place a bit better.

Still bidding on bits and bobs on ebay when they crop up cheap :D

I'm again home for the weekend, marshalling at Lynn Stages Rally tomorrow with my Dad and little brother, should be fun!

Faffed about a bit in the garage today, was expecting Camp Freddy over to give me some pointers but he was busy. I'm pretty limited with what I can do at the moment as bodywork is the only thing really possible.. if I was to carry on with my engine I'd need to order parts beforehand, which is something I need to get back into the swing of.

Some small old suitcases that my Grandma has given me, will be using these for my retro sound system :D

The door, fantastic condition! one tiny patch of rust which looks a doddle to fix.

And I dremeled some holes and mounted my boot light. Didn't mount the handle as I can't offer the boot up to see how it all sits as the spit is in the way.

Tested out my Iphone 4s video as well, should be viewable in 720HD?

Looks good, much better quality than my 3g.

Although I'd open those holes up a bit more, pushing those threads through will take off any paint around the holes.

Projects coming along nicely!!!

Yeah I was pretty impressed actually! I've seen a mount you can buy to attach the Iphone 4 to a tripod, might invest for when she is running etc..

Aye I did afterwards :D Just didn't take another video.

Long overdue an update I think

For the past month or so I've made the decision to cut my losses and opt for a better shell, the whole point and benefit is that it is considerably cheaper, easier and faster.

I fully understand and sort of agree that I could be seen as 'giving up' on my current shell, but in all honesty I bit off more than I could chew. It seems that I had a proper 'rot box'. It if was a MK1 super rare mini then I'd think differently, but it's only a 1990 so nothing special, treading carefully here :P

So after seeing a few shells, from different ages and different places across the country. Shifty sent me a message asking if I was interested in his, I looked at his project thread so I knew it was done properly and he is a trusted member off here! so drove down today with my Dad and I've sealed the deal.

It's a 1979 850cc! Lovely little thing, good honest shell. And a runner as well.

So the plan is..

Weekend after next we'll need to move things around at home, I'll then strip 'Paddy' down within two days. Over Christmas I will be prepping the shell, welding up the drainage holes in the floor, also want to seam seal the arches, rust proof the underside etc.. and then send it of for spraying! Get it back after a month or two and build it back up.

As for 'b' her future is undecided, three options..

a) sell it
b) restore it and sell it, trying to break even.. which is highly unlikely.
c) make her into a trailer

Unsure if option c is cruel or a sort of tribute? ^_^

So there you have it

I have also made the decision not to use my 1 piece front flip. I bought it two years ago and my opinions have changed, I'd rather run with a fitted steel front end. So that and the upwards flipping american style hinges could be for sale. (Dependent on what happens with b)
