Resin will release from smooth aluminium and waxy plastics like polythene - and wax. A buff up with car polish will help. If you're going to do a bit of moulding it may be worth buying PVA release agent, it just brushes on like thin paint.

What is it, is like electrical tape but is more plastic then rubbery if that makes sense?

the thing being is you need it to stick. PVA is good stuff and goes for miles! i water it down and spray it though. let it evaporate and spray again.

to get the foil to stick to the surface not for the resin to stick to the foil!

Sorry guys I think there's been a bit of confusion. When I say 'mould' I mean I'm creating a fiberglass sub box in the passenger rear bin which when dry I will remove the 'Mould' (the actual sub box I will be using) and adding more fiberglass inside it to create a stronger box. I have masking taped the inside of the car around the bin and wheel arch so it wont stick to the car itself. I wasn't actually going to take a mould of the box itself, although that may be an option if anyone else likes what I have done.

Again DOH!! I've done the school-boy error and rushed into it thinking I can get it done quicker. I will check it again tomorrow but it looks like I will have to prise off what I have started and then re-cover the area in a couple of layers of foil and start againas it will be a tight fit I cant really allow it to stick at all. Hopefully I can reuse the part I have done already as it isn't that big a piece and I can put it back in once it's foil-ed.
Thanks for all the advice and pics :(

p.s Is that box for a 12" to fit in the drivers side boot area?

Iv`e got resin into all the cloth, thats all dried, and one layer of fiberglass on the inside.

Im going to fire one onto the outside next as it was a total mare to do on the inside.

All places apart from the mold as ive got room to play with there. and it doesn't need it being 5 layers thick already.

I checked the bit I did already and not good. I don't think I used enough hardener as after a day the resin is still sticky. I've removed what I did the other day and re-masked the area. I have some ali tape so will try that with ali foil in a couple of layers to see if that works. Hopefully with 2 layers they will seperate from eachother so I can remove the mould without too much trouble. Even the little bit i did was a b#*ch to get out so I wil have to seriously consider the process I use to complete the box.

Sam what kind of resin & hardener are you using as it's a different colour to the stuff I've got.

p.s. Sorry if we've hijacked from the original question but hope you learn from our trial'n'error instead. :w00t:

Just cheapo polyester resin, from east coast, i buy 25kg containers of it though.

Mix in at 3 percent using calibrated mixing cups and a syringe, i always mix at this. Takes about an hour to cure in our current climate.

100ML Resin 3ML cat.

Mix slowly though!!!!! you don`t want to get any extra air into the resin. about 30 twirls per min. Technical term there!!!!!

by the way little tip, mostly used in panel work but!

Get something flat that has a taper on it, and smack it down the side. tapping with a hammer gently! Around every few inches. will release the seal, then should be easier to get out.

You might still have to pull like f$^$ though.
