i picked up my next rally car on the weekend, a Puegeot 106 GTI
got it for £780 its a 1.6 16 valver in black...aaand its quite rare but its also non sunroof woo! so right there iv already saved money from not having to do a roof transplant and not having to spray it black which is the exact colour i want...SMINT!
anyway after arranging with Shifty off here to pick it up off i went with him and his trailer to get it then back to my friends unit to work on before i get it on the road.
So here are the pictures of the car in its near enough standard condition
its already been lowerd a certain amount at some point they will be *meloned* off for some coil overs suitable for rally use, either protech of some other equivelent. Its also got a cat back exhaust system and induction kit...lol deary me That will be replaced for a performance 4 branch manifold and a pugsport full system.
1st jobs to do on the car was to make the wheels safe some reason seemed like every wheel bolt holding on seach wheel was different, some were from a ford escort, some a fiesta and the rest we couldnt identify. So... tapped out all 16 holes (remember in peugeots they use bolt rather than studs and nuts) borrowed some bolts from my friend off his rally car and the wheels were secure, every bolt seems tight...that is all except 1 on the rear, its tight but im still somewhat unsure so today i bought 2 new rear hubs which should be winging its way to me at some point soon.
and as simple as that its just about ready to go on the road
so... the plan is to use it as a road car for a while, whilst its still being used on the road im going to aquire all the bits for the interior and blits it all in 1 weekend.
Plans for the car and simple spec:
1st stage:
Strip interior
Seam weld
Weld in seat rails
Paint interior white
Fit Safety Devices 10 point rollcage (with additional tubing)
Fit bucket seats, if i can stretch my budget ill go for Recaros
Fit TRS 5 point Harnesses in lime green
Fit snap off steering wheel kit
Rest of the spec:
Engine:
1.6 16v
Lightened and balanced rotating assembly
Lightened Fly and clutch kit
Flowed head
4 Branch Manifold and Pugsport exhaust system
Limited Slip Diff
Suspension and brakes:
Rebuilt rear suspension with Group N mounts
Uprated shock absorbers front and back(unsure of spec (money dependent))
Uprated Braking system (unsure of spec)
theres obviously alot more to do but hey! iv only had it 2 days i cant be expected to make my spec that quickly

it already owes me more than that gregh haha...but it does go to show that you can get them for decent prices
rallye's are about 100kg's lighter than GTI's but have as standard only an 8v fitted...that saying the things that make the rallye lighter would be changed anyway, for example door cards are lighter and chopped down, ill be replacing with CF ones anyway, apparently bumpers are lighter, well, im not going to change those but as its going to be a rally car sure they will get battered and brused at some point...if they dont im not trying hard enough.
apparently the rallyes dont have the 3rd brake light, ill be replacing my standard one for an ultra bright FIA rain light (there...expensive!)
I would like money now...

you should probs fit a front and rear strut brace?

Will depend on bonnet clearence for the front one, its going to have strengthening plates on top mounts...rear...theres no where to fit a rear i dont think :S however the rollcage and beam mounts should stiffen up the rear end enough, like i say, the rear beam needs rebuilding but it will be alright for road use for a short while till i have money anyway. get the bad points sorted out before i start adding cage seats etc no point having it all caged if the rear just bounces round a roundabout etc because its seized.
anyway because im at Uni my friend at Temple Rally Sport is fitting the hubs for me aswell as giving the rear beam a once over (re-attaching the torsion bar for one!) all hopefully before i get back from uni on the 18th
