Just wanted to make a point regarding Coachpainting as thats what this is be it using Rustoleum,Tekoloid or any other brand its basically Coachpainting
I think theres some really good results here but i keep seeing people say "why dont you just use car paints?"
For a starter with all the equipment you need and the cost of 2pack or celulose per litre you could get over twice as much coachpaint for the same price or less
Yes you can brush on Celulose or 2pack but it leaves far more brush marks in it and tends not to flow as well when brushed or rollered
Comming back to the price before any sprayers jump on me,having your car proffesionally sprayed costs too much if your on a limited budget
Now im not saying they charge too much because i know its time consuming and they have to make a living but whichever way you dress it up if you only have a budget of a couple of hundred theres no way any bodyshop can respray your car for that because the paint it most likely to cost that before you start
So if you only have a very small budget and plenty of time on your hands you can most probably coachpaint a Mini for between £100-200 yourself depending on prices of paint, brushes etc from your local stockists
Coachpaint also doesnt smell anywhere near as bad as Celulose or 2Pack
Bare in mind until sprayable paint came along all vehicles were coachpainted and i believe many handbuilt car companys carried on coachpaint long after most mass produced cars were sprayed
General Rule is you can paint enamel based paint over most other paints like 2pack,celulose etc but not the other way around
I think it may be because enamel based paint takes forever to cure properly so under the surface its probably still soft whereas the car paints like celly and 2k cure quickly?
not certain just my theory
Signwriters use Enamel over celly and 2k so it doesnt react that way just never do it the tother way around
If we were living in the 60,s-70,s most getting there first cars would get a can of coach enamel to stamp their mark on it and Finnigans who make Hammerite used to do something called RE-PAINT i had an ancient car mechanics mag once where they painted a staff car in it and it came out as good as a Sprayjob
All in all if you can afford a proper spray go for it if not have a go coachpainting, better to do it cheap and keep a classic on the road rarther than it get worse and have to me scrapped huh?
