I'll tell you what the problem is. The hone on the bore is not deep enough to remove all the boring marks, and thus, the ring seal is comprimised. two sets of different rings are not sealing in the bore, that is not a coincidence. Also, I dont recall you saying that when you fitted new rings that it was re honed?

other things to consider is the material used for the liners and the ring type, and, whether the bores are actualy round top to bottom

The engine did only 1-1.5 hours befor the second ringset applied. The workshop did not rehoned the bores.


It should have had a hone with the new rings.

If you look in the picture you posted showing the cross hatch, you can still see the horizontal scoring from the boring operation. The hone is suposed to remove all of this leaving a 30 to 45 degree cross hatch. Once the rings have been run in the bore, new rings will need the bores re honing for them to seal efficiently.



Well there you go. Thats almost five month since :D
