Dad went up to wales yesterday and collected some trials bikes and my Imp pistoned engine I bought 2 and half years ago. Despite sitting a shed for all that time it still turns over by hand easily, shame I've got to use different block really.

Put the battery on charge ready to get it going and tune up over the weekend. Also figured out how to put new dash rail covers on.

Fitted new passenger side exterior handle and a side repeater under the door mirror and got it all wired in. Stripped door card and plastic handles in prep. for new door cards and interior handles.

Cleaned up top and bottom rail covers that I removed the other day. Repaired foam of the bottom one. All degreased in preparation for sticking on new vinyl covers.

Got my homemade dash apart also read for scriming and covering in vinyl.

Investigated standard temp gauge not working. Removed and cleaned PCB on the Nippon 2 clock. Still not working so removed gauges to find both tiny wires (the voltage regulation?) snapped off. So managed to resolder them back on with a gas soldering iron. Gauge now works. Whoop! Just need to fit a new sender when I drain the system for new hoses and thermostat next week.

Had a further tidy of the hacked wiring behind the dash. Removed another five metres of cables and a ton of Scotchlocks (devils spawn). Can now remove the hideous aftermarket water temp gauge.

Found three pay & display tickets down the back of the carpet in passenger footwell. Two for Brighton in 1996 and one for Maidstone in 1998. :)

Tomorrow is wiring in a brake test switch and the reservoir, stripping the wiper motor as its running slow and replacing broken park switch and removing the heater to modify and clean it up.

Cheers

Ian

Took a trip up to the hills. A lot windier up there than I thought. Shouldn't have worn a skirt...

Cleaned up my remaining two pistons, gave the cylinder block it's last coat of lacquer and oiled the bores to prevent any rusting, then did the same with the polished cam and crankshaft.
Lastly, removed original down pipe and link pipe from the exhaust, ready for new manifold when I start rebuilding.
Also got more pressies in the post: graphogen for rebuilding and a replacement crank pulley.
1 more visit to Minispares after I've measured the crank journals and I should be able to begin reassembly! :)

Took a trip up to the hills

Just above Charlesworth, Derbyshire? I had a close shave with death in a Mini years ago when the drum brakes faded at the "chicane" at the bottom of that hill. My fault though, going too fast for the conditions.....
