Gave it a quick detail whilst I was in the garage.

I had noticed that there where a few rattles, creaks and bangs of late through the suspension and the steering wheel, had been putting off looking for a few months but it was getting worse. so today this morning decided to take a look. on the front the steering rack mounting bolts where not as tight as I remember so gave them a few turns. test drive and that was the clunky steering sorted. now the back. after much consideration I decided it must be the shock absorbers moving and transferring the clunk through the rear suspension, so moved the petrol tank to one side and gave the mounting bolts a few turns and locked with the lock nut, and the same with the other side. test drive and that sorted. Its probably phycological but the car feels much better and a hell of a lot quieter over the bumps now. A productive few hours in the garage for a change !

Removed all the bitumen sound deadening, and with the help of a mate and a bit of swearing, got it up on the roller jig.

Started making preparations for fitting new exhaust.

Carb off manifold nuts off, servo pipe disconnected

Manifold off. Will also be renewing the fuel lines and putting a new fuel pump on whilst everything is out of the way.

Other jobs were oil change, filter change, coolant dropped and flushed new temp switch in rad as old one is knackered. Still plenty left to.

Drove it around London in the sweltering heat, and was relieved that I had an electric fan fitted in addition to the belt-driven one.

What's the steel pipe coming off the down pipe?

I have a 1993 carb so this is a gas analyzer pipe. Was fitted as standard from the factory for the CO readings when setting mixture etc.

Drove it 2.5 hours half way across the country, smashed it round Blyton Park for a bit then drove it home.
All went pretty well apart from some of the oil falling out! Haha

Whilst I had the rear shock off, I decided to hammerite the drum & radius arm.
Looks pretty nice now!

Took Mini for an MOT for the first time in 10 years.

Failed. But only on rear brake imbalance and a split steering rack gaiter. So I can't really complain!

The tester was very complimentary too. Liked the fact I'd treated the beginnings of rust and had greased all the nipples. He said she was clearly cared for.
